Default Rear Speakers

who has put speakers in the stock rear speaker holes. I have a 1986 and I was told that I could fit anything but a 4x6 back there unless I do some cutting? Is that true?

My 4X6 alpines went right in. It will take some cutting for 6X9.

86....IIRC you will need to cut out metal for anything other than a 4x6

I didn't see a good way to get 6x9 speakers back there. No luck with 5x7 either. 6.5" is pretty straight forward.

I did 4x6 but should have done 6.5, the sound just isn't that great with 4x6

That is one thing I HATE about the 951.

You hop in modern Kia and the stereo sound blows a 951 away.

Some 6x9 would help out so much and so would a sub. I looked at one point of adding a sub enclosure, but that will add 100 lbs for a good sounding one. What has anyone done to make the 951 sound better?

On both my old NA and now 951 I just took the speaker wire from the quarter glass and ran it to the hatch in the side cubbies with 6x9.

Also getting ready to turn the spare tire area into an enclosure with some 3/4 mdf about 14"x28" to run two 10's.

Although, I ran an 8" bazooka tube on my NA right behind the rear seat, which was pretty easy.

KLA industries makes a 8" Sub enclosure that will go in one of the cubby's that is what I am going to do most likely. I just want to put in another set of speakers for more sound to fill it out. Then the sub will take car of the low end and I will have a good basic system.

I've got two 6" speakers zip tied underneath my dash for the front speakers, and two Bose outdoor environmental speakers in my rear seats with the seats folded down over them.....actually works quite well.

I have Two 10s built into the spare tire well. Amp in the Cubby and I just removed the rear seat and am redoing that area so I will have as much trunk Space as when the seats were folded but look a lot better and adding a lip to it so all the stuff doesn't fly into the front seats when you hit the breaks. I think I am going to add 6X9s into this area as well. I am waiting on new carpet to come in but should be done soon and will post up pics. When the new Carpet comes in I am also going to remove the Molded hump in the carpet that was for the spare and probably make that a removable section so I can show off the subs or hide them as necessary.
