question about a loaded up 1988 944 Turbo S....
wondering how much it would have cost to walk out of the dealer back in the day....

What's that in 2010 dollars?
This should put it in perspective for those folks who pick up a 951 thinking they got a "cheap Porsche" and then complain about how expensive they are to maintain!

i was just calculating that.......
okay, from inflation calculator, http://www.inflationdata.com/inflati...sp#calcresults
selecting start date @ January 1988 and end date @ January 2010, amounts to 87 % total inflation...
multiplying $47,000 X 1.87, i get $88,052 in today's $$$ when adjusted for inflation...
interesting !

yeah, i'm not liking the bling either, and the steering wheel/column/door trim is pretty hideious on his own car.
i like the 968 CS/996 wheel options, and then doing the vinyl pieces over in BLACK leather would be super sweet.

I actually have the original window sticker from the PO of my 88 S.
So, if I had full leather the price would have been well into the 50,000 area.
Apparently the car will also do 19city/27highway... lol

far and away the greatest cars in the world in 1988 were the 944 Turbo S, 959, and F-40s at their prices.

Well... um... ok having seen several discussions here in the past about equating the 944 series to the Boxster/Cayman series, and how ugly those threads got, I'll just keep quiet.

the joke was on me....... visiting EPE in Natick, Mass... when i asked Gerry about turbocharging the Cayman — he looks at me for about 5 seconds with this "very annoyed look" and says, NOOOO.... and he tells me he's pulled nearly a dozen dead Cayman motors (to date) with under 50 K miles on them..... how they're having trouble understanding how they could have screwed up getting proper oilflow to the bearings so bad, after having nearly the same problems with the 996 n/a motors.
