so I just went and reviewed the wiring diagrams, Josh, do you think that possibly a short in the seatbelt light could cause that?

per clark's garage:

I've traced the wiring diagram, the wire that goes from the airbag control module that operates the seatbelt light migrates thru the fuse box into Relay G16 (gong relay). then it goes up to the gauge cluster. I'm thinking the next place I'm gonna check (tomorrow) is the connections at that relay, because we did take out the fusebox, I'm wondering if something didn't get pinched or whatnot when we did that.

Possible I suppose.
Re: pinched wiring - also a possibility, though I think it is just more to deal with moving around old wiring...

Warning lights are out!

I was having a bitch of a time finding anything wrong, so I jammed on down to the local Porsche shop, spoke with the shop foreman who's been working on 944's since the day they were released. he told me there was probably nothing wrong, and I had probably not been effective with my reset procedure. I showed him Clark's garage instructions, he said they were accurate, but instead of attaching the alligator clip to the door latch, attach it directly to the negative battery lead. Then he suggested to use a stop watch to make sure I got 5 seconds surgically accurate between actions with the button. so I did those, and the light is out!

Happiness is zero warning lights on the dash.

In my case in turned out to be a fault in the slip ring/clockspring.
Hi gregeast my name is Justin, and I'm having a problem finding anything that will translate the blink codes with what the vehicle is reporting. Any info on how to translate the blinks into a code would be greatly appreciated.

Clark's Garage has procedures for reading codes, the code table and resetting the light

http://www.clarks-garage.com/

Click on Garage Shop Manual from the left side navigation pane
Scroll down to Body, the Airbag procedures are the first two in that section

Bookmark Clark's Garage, it's a fabulous resource!

Best of luck with your issue.

Like what the porsche dealer said, you have to be accurate with the timing of the switch. I rigged up a test rig and left it in my glove box (on a long wire). I attached the alligator clip to a bare metal hanger behind the glove box and that works fine. Mine seems to go off every month or so and not due to the same issue. I like to not have lights on when i'm driving, esp at night.
