considering I was driving, got out, went to the liquor store, shut off the car, went inside, came out without booze (wanted something that store didn't sell), got in, gauges were dead. shut off car, started again, all was well, then lights didn't go out after the initial system check. sooooooooooooooooooooooooo... friend thinks relay. what you think?

Geoff, did you remove that last bit of wiring behind the radio...? If not, it is probably shorting, causing your issue.

try going thru the air bag reset procedure . the seat belt light and the air bag light will be on when air bag system is down.

Clarks garage has the procedure

Take a look at the airbag blink code procedure on Clark's Garage as well. Tip: Record the blinks as a video on your cell phone, much easier to count them when you can play it back as often as you want.

In my case in turned out to be a fault in the slip ring/clockspring.

hmm, this is the problem I am having, and it's preventing me from passing my safety check, I will be interested in see what you come up with. I did the reset and got nothing, so I did the procedure to get the error code, and I think what it's telling me is there is a problem with the seat belt system. I checked all the connections I could find and verified that my seat belt clip is working properly, so I am at a loss right now...

My seatbelt light came on when my airbag light did. Bypassed the airbag controller and everything was kosher (airbag no worky anymore...).

I might have to do that Darwin. I'm not a fan of 22 year old explosives not far from my head.

It's easy, just disconnect the airbag controller and jumper pins 3 and 4 on the car side of the harness so the fuel pump works. Make sure that wire won't come out and you're good to go. Some prefer to put a resistor behind the airbag, but this (to me) is much easier.

Ok. so using the clarks-garage blink codes, I have a Hex code fault #30, which directly translates to "failure warning lamp-short circuit". Does ANYONE happen to have a gauge cluster wiring diagram? or a wiring diagram that includes airbags? TIA

btw. anyone looking to do the blink codes thing on clarks garage, the Molex connector stated DOES NOT look like the diagram. its almost rectangular, is the ONLY connector under the dash with 3 female ends, and comes directly out of the orange box which I'd assume is the airbag control module.
