Default Power steering cooler

I was thinking about deleting the Power steering and going w/ a looped or grease filled rack, but since the car will be on the street a bit, I decided to keep the power steering.

I had removed the cooler when painting the engine bay, and really hate to put it back, I have read posts where on the track, the temps were too high w/o it.

I saw the GM 5.7 Camaro uses a cooler which looks to be cooled by the radiator fluid. I am guessing the PS fluid gets much hotter, really never gave too much though about the PS temps.

Any possibilitys here??

Steve

I'm not to sure about that, but why not use a standard smaller p/s cooler? Are you just looking for a tightier option that doesn't require airflow?

Basically yes, I was looking for a smaller cooler when I stumbled across this. Not sure what the diameter of the hose is, kind of looks large. If the size of the upper or lower radiator hose, I may pass, but if smaller I might try to weld in some smaller barbed fittings to use, in the 5/8 (IIRC) coolant lines.

Thanks

Might work well, but that cooler looks too long to fit in any of our existing cooling lines? Any measurements of it?

use a radiator type cooler for the PS fluid; personally id like to keep nothing in the coolant radiator but coolant...

if you look at volvo 240/740 turbos they have very nice engine oil coolers (same size as a KISS cooler) that could work for PS cooling, they also have decently sized PS coolers (radiator types). both the oil and PS coolers are setrab.

the PS cooler will mount in about the same space as the original coil.

See them here.

Is this for a race car running big wide tires?

I was hoping it was smaller, I think the inside diameter is from feedback between 1 1/8 to 1 3/4. I had seperated the stock twin hard coolant pipe that mounts to the frame rails, for an AFM relocation kit. I kept the small line and currently run a N/A hose for the larger hard coolant line. I was thinking of fitting this somewhere along that stretch of hose. Not sure how effective that cooler would be, it just seemed to be easily incorperated into this hose. If not worth the trouble, I will likely go back to the stock setup, now that I am going w/ an EMS and wont need room up front for the AFM.

I am not running real large tires, prob 245 up front and 275 rear.

If PS cooling on the track is something that may help to be improved, I will look for a more efficent smaller one, and mount where good airflow is.

Thanks
Steve

the tip tronic cooler is a left hand 951 oil cooler be nice for a second oil cooler..
i think a proper oil cooler will work better than those loops so you can mount it with out the concern of airflow .. one of those feng chweng pit bike oil cooler will do the job
