Default RPMs dont drop!! Need help!

So ill be driving my car, and all of a sudden my rpms wont drop, almost like someones holding the throttle at idle. It will hold at about 2000, till i let the clutch out and the engine will slow it down. Im thinking mabye tps, or idle adjustment. Let me know if you guys have had any similiar problems Any ideas would be great!

Check the TPS connection. Re-Produce the problem by moving it around while car is idling.
If a vacuum leak, it wouldn't fix itself.

yep, probably the TPS.

If that doesn't fix it, check to make sure the throttle body is fully closing off-throttle and vice-versa.

I had a similar problem and it was the throttle bowden cable. The cable end was loose at the pinch point and would occasionally slide out forcing an elevated idle. Easy check while you're in there.

Probably the idle air adjustment on AFM, if the TPS and idle are right.

cruise control unit. disconnect it. see what happens.

also, might sound dumb, make sure carpet isn't sticking to the gas pedal.

make sure there is nothing holding the thrott;e from closing, such as hood insulation, etc.

Same problem here, it came and went. Ended up being the TPS. Try tapping on it next time it gets stuck. On my car the idle would drop back down when I tapped on the TPS. If it does end up being the TPS make sure you pry it open and check for oil inside. If that's the case then you also have bad seals on the throttle body shaft. This site has some great info as well as a link to a throttle body reseal kit http://www.arnnworx.com/tps-repair.htm

FWIW, if it hasn't happened again, you need to check the actual throttle cable, and the throttle cam. Don't get crazy technical until you eliminate the moast obvious and basic physical issues, FIRST.

Most of us think we're too smart for that...until we realize we weren't.

+1

do cheapest/simplest fixes first. try disconnecting the cruise control, if it doesn't fix it, then no harm done, just reconnect it. personally, i'd wait till i've tried every other obvious/common fix before dropping 100 for a TPS.

Check the hose clamp on the intake coupling. The throttle arm maybe hanging up on it.
