OT, but which Heuer is that? I just let a Carrera go today, and this is making me second guess it...

It's the Heuer automatic. I like it, but it needs to get serviced every 3-4 years, which is somewhat expensive and a PITA.

Additional question about the mirrors. What's with the bolt coming out of one of them? I assume it's not factory...

The bolt is not stock, there should be a spring/cam lock fitting there. You may be able to transfer that stuff over from your flag mirrors. I can't remember, it has been awhile since I assembled a set.

What about wiring harnesses? I don't see any wiring in either of these 968 mirrors. What else is missing?

should have a wire end plug,unless they are manual mirrors

That should be coming out the bottom of the mirror, right? I don't think Porsche made these as manual mirrors, only power.

Can the harness be tucked up inside it somewhere? If so, how can I get to it, or at least see if there's wiring tails or a plug?

Porsche definitely made them available as manual, as I have a set on non-power mirrors on my car. And Karl is right, the same cam assembly and wiring from your flag mirrors should tranbsfer over to the new mirrors.

You're right, that's obsessive. Eat a half a sandwich less, I'm sure that will make up more than the weight difference.

Take off your existing mirrors, disassemble them and transfer the internal hardware to the new housings. The first one, if you follow Keith's 968 mirror write up, will take you about 30 minutes. The second one will take you about 5 minutes.

Weight difference between manual and powered ones is pretty minimal, maybe 6 ounces per side. Whether that is significant or not depends on your definition of "significant".
