I've been wondering the same thing. The eyebolt system, in the write up, works great.

Use the vice to hold the extension upward with the socket on it. Place the mirror assembly ontop of it and push down and turn the mirror assembly until you feel it pop into place. Olli is right, it takes about 5 seconds per side.

The eyelet method works fine as well, especially iof you don't have a bench vice handy. It just takes a bit more wrenching but gets the job done equally well, it just takes a bit longer.

Actually you do no use any socket, just extension with wise. The head of extension fits directly on mirror mechanism.

Another dumb question, where does the wiring harness from the mirror go? Does it snake down through the hole there and into the "leg" that mounts to the car? If so, how does it get past the cam bolt/spring?

It passes through the cam bolt, it is hollow for that reason. You will need an amp tool to remove the pins from the connector so you can slide the wires out.

I'm wondering why people need to make this "special tool" to assemble the mirrors? A M10 "serrated wrench" (or "cheesehead" whatever you want to call it) is all you need to screw the base on to the actual mirror??

The cam assembly needs to be compressed, thats what all the discussion about the special tool/extension/vice is all about.

Alright, I guess my spring was weak compared to a new one, as I was able to do it easily enough with hands and a serrated wrench when swapping parts from one (broken) mirror to another spare I had.

In any case, good to know since I will be installing new 968 mirrors from Sunset shortly..

It will allow you to pull the pins out of the connector without cutting the wire. Then you can just insert the connector after you pull it through the cam bolt (the connector is too large to pass through).

I use this kit which is the EXACT kit snap on sells for about 1/5th of the cost. Ok, snap on uses a black case instead of a red one, lol.

Works only with 944 mirrors, which uses much better system than 968 ones
