So my car came with 968 mirrors in a box, but...

Yep, I have the DIY. Not sure why I need to assemble such a huge bolt thing for the mirror.
Got the drivers mirror glass off (what a PITA!) and I'm confused about the wiring on the motor. There are two brown wires, both with female and male ends. In reading the DIY I know where the male ends are going, but can't seem to see where the female ends connect?
Still struggling to get the passenger mirror glass off btw...

The mirror glass is glued to a base with a rotating lock. I can't remember which way, but if you slide a small screw driver under the bottom of the glass, there are some notches. If you push them one way, the glass unlocks from the mirror motor. The other way it locks into the mirror motor.

Yeah, I know about the notches, it's just really hard to push them. There's a lock peg that doesn't release particularly easily.
Those quoted prices for the mirror glass are directly through Sunset...

Dang! Apparently the "kit" price is a great deal. I couldn't believe how many bags of "genuine" parts could be so cheap. I also can't believe what people think 968 mirrors (or handles) are worth used. A set of used mirrors on ebay right now is $575. Sunset sends complete mirrors AND handles to your house for $500.

The glass, itself is ridonculously expensive. I also got the whole kit from Sunset. Paragon wanted 363.00 for the kit.
It's a bit mind boggling.

OK, just so I understand, I'm compressing the spring on the cam bolt, correct? Is there some kind of slot that I'm trying to get the spring captured in and that's why I can do it outside of the mirror in a vise, then drop the assembly into the mirror?
Pictures would be a great help.

I'm not sure what you are asking, but no. You can't do it outside of the mirror housings, and then insert the spring bolt.
Use the DIY write up that I sent you a while back. There are notches in the mirror housings. The bolt/spring are compressed to enable them to fit together as a unit.
To see how it works, insert the bolt from the base into the mirror housing, without the spring. You'll then see how it is designed to fit. There are pics in the write up.
The bolt, spring, base and mirror housing combine to make a working unit.
