Default Porsche Tax

I was running on the interstate behind a cop car with no municipality/state identification at approx 80 mph and I was behind him about 1/10 mile for about 10 miles. He fell back and made some threatening gestures, so, as I had my video camera, I took it out and videoed my speedometer and our relative positions.

In another couple of miles a NYS state cop stopped me and said the other officer asked him to stop me for speeding, which he did. I told the NYS cop that I had video of the whole arrangement and, if I was speeding, so was the cop which I thought would be difficult to explain to a judge. I said that if the police thought 80 mph was a safe speed, so did I. The cop was not on a call or would have had his lights on which he did not.

It has always annoyed me that police don't think they have to obey the same laws that other citizens do. This behavior certainly doesn't encourage me to respect law enforcement.

No ticket, no warning, no nothing.

nice work Willard .. we recently got a new body of federal inspectors called "work safe" and it was pretty sweat to hear about cops getting fines for not wearing there Hi vis vest when writing tickets on the road side . I'm excited about seeing some cops come unstuck in the new video recording age ..We have cops here initiate a street race in there private car then book you if they lose..
as the gear is much cheaper now I realy would like to have cameras installed desecrating in the car it would also be real handy when you get good scalp like a rich girl in an M6

Just some advice...I'd never admit to going 80. They can ALWAYS make some excuse up for going 80, legit or not, and you just admitted to a moving violation.

When you get a speeding ticket in NY, you are entitled to discovery and can blow holes in any excuse you get in discovery....that kind of after-the-fact cop reason is easy to counter at trial.

I did not admit to doing 80, I only observed that the cop was doing 80, I never said I was. I have learned this from experience.......I do drive a Porsche and have way more experience than I ever wanted.

i took it in for a RWC and they picked on every little thing in my car, they broke my power window switch and didn't admit to it, picked on small stup!d things like the break pads made a little noise. and the place i took it before that which the guy had a quick look at it, his like by looking at it, it wont pass, me and my dad are like why?, he said that its to low (being stock height) im not alowed to have an intercooler(the stock one). Cowboy Up dude, Do the crime, do the time. Only place to complain is at the polls. Glad you got off, ya, plead your case in court, works sometimes, but the 'well...he was' thing went out with 'the dog ate my homework'. The Law can be changed, a lot of Utah is 80 now.

Better means and methods this time, Van.
Video or the prospect of video seems most effective.....thought it would be.
