cost for parts, engine re-build for changing my 968...
curious about the costs in parts if i were to Turbocharge my 3.0 to moderate boost for perhaps 360-375 hp... what i might be looking at in machining the block, crank, rebuild kit, 951 heads (or maybe stay variocam ?), so that might be - new cams, variocam system, pistons, turbo, injectors, plumbing, and whatever else...
understanding that after i pulled the engine, sent out the block and crank, that my friend would perform the engine assembly, (he's a mechanical genius, has built many engines, helicopters, and is helping to build the new Boeing 787(. and takes apart/rebuilds helicopter engines pretty much for fun).
another friend can do the turbo/accessories/fuel and electronics... no need to count that in at this moment, as i'm mostly concerned with parts inventory and the machine work... wondering, if i can touch this.
are the Powerhaus people be a good place to source parts ? LART, others ?
i realize you all have pretty much written the book on this stuff so... i'm looking forward to hearing what my options might be.
much thanks.

Either do a low pressure turbo setup and keep the stock engine internals, or do a full build and do it right. Money saver builds rarely save any money.

well you asked about cost not if it can be done ..i will throw out some cost's for you ..
parts to turbo a 3.0
inlet manifold inter cooler turbo crossover and full 3"or 4" waste gate
will be 2 to 6k
fuel system tuning stuff ignition computer etc.
1200 to 6000.
pistons optional below 400hp $1000
head reco basic 800
con-rods also optional below 400hp
944T forged second hand $200
mugatu conrods 1200 to 1800
i think if you are ultra patient carful you can turbo a 3.0 low boost 400hp for $4000 but that is a few months or research a a few months of waiting around for bargains to pop up on rennlist and ebay .

my friend John is offering to do it all if i supply the parts, meat for the grill and the beer.
boeing trusts him to aid in the design and supervision of the building of vital parts, for the 787....
he's got 31 years building engines, helicopter engines, service, rebuilds.... commercial jets. party animal.

my good friend John has is a genius. 30 years experience building engines, helicopter engine service, rebuilds, and the 787...
and he hasn't killed anyone yet. and he's offering to do it all if i supply the parts, meat for the grill and the beer.
if boeing trusts him to design and build vital parts, maybe i can trust him to assemble an engine.

well lart that's why i came here. between what he can do and what YOU ALL DO, which we we can safely assume is practically second nature, maybe there's a chance something can get done for reasonable money.

4 years ago I bought RKD in OKC's car for 10k, I still have the receipts it was a 3.0L failed build by a reputable builder the receipts add to more than 35k.

Though I have no doubt that he has the requisite mechanical assembly skills, being a Boeing tech doesn't mean nor suggest that he knows the peculiarities of a 4452 engine.

Just like astronauts, in this project, it won't be the launch, but the re-entry that will kill ya.
