Thanks guys. I'm going to buy them either way. I just haven't heard back from Alex yet.

Really? I run 265s on 10s and they don't look stretched...

In theory, yes. But like you said, it varies a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer. I've got some Bridgestones - 255/40R17's, that have a 265mm section width (measured by stacking them up, and measuring from floor to a straight edge placed across the entire tire). The sidewalls are much wider than the lips of the 9" wheels on which they are mounted. They would perform much better on 10's. I have actually found that the closest place to the advertised width is about where the tread meets the sidewall. The difference between the sidewall and wheel lip is greater on those than on the same size Falkens I have on narrower wheels (8.5's).

Anyway, I think the wheels will work out fine for him, but like I said, it is more dependant on the tires than the wheels.

Hey guys, thanks for the discussion and info. When I get the wheels, I'll get with Damon@tirerack and talk with him about the smallest tire that can safely work on the front. This thread will be helpful in determining that.
I'll either make them work or I'll have 2 18x9.5 wheels for sale!

18's shouldn't make very much difference in fitment.

My car is a turbo S and I run -3.5 camber in the front...

How much do ya think that -3.5 camber will hurt tire wear, for a street car? If need be, I can get the fenders rolled.

Generally Toe is what wears out tires, but if you're doing any kind of decent mileage the amount of camber I'm running will shred a tire pretty quickly.

This isn't my daily driver, so I don't care so much about it...

Id run a square setup with 255s all around, that would be badass.

They will not look stretched. I can tell you that. The sidewalls will be straight up and down. As far as being safe, you wont have to run a small enough tire to worry about that.

255's on a 9.5" wheel is small. I generally run 275's on them and they're square...

I'm just worried about getting too much tire to fit. 275 = 10.8 inches, if I did the math right. That seems like it would be hard to fit without issues, atleast on the fronts. Whadda ya think?
