Default Installed the Ideola starter

My started died the other day (at the track - and we had to push start the car all day long...)

So, I thought it would be a good excuse to put in Ideola's planetary gear starter. Dan had one on the shelf and was able to ship it to me on short notice.

Overall, really happy with it (well, it starts the car!!). I had to fuss a little with the adapter plate (indexing to try different positions). I finally got it where I wanted (maximize ground clearance), and then had to modify the wastegate heat shield.

The way I ended up putting it, the terminals are easy to access on the driver's side. It also looks like I have more room to access the clutch bleeder, too!

I took a bunch of pictures:

Nice job!! To bad it is on the wrong side of the engine to see the bling!!
2 questions:
1. Is it now the low point in the car (ground clearnce)? It is hard to tell the pics.
2. Did it save any weight or did you just want better cranking?

It cranks much faster than the non-cranking it did before. Honestly, I can't say that I see a huge cranking difference compared to when the old starter worked.

The low point is my exhaust. The starter is obviously a little lower than before, but I don't think it'll be a problem. The way I have it turned, it gives me about an inch extra ground clearance than the position the of the adapter plate in the photo.

The real reason I wanted this starter is because I have a small battery - and I figured this starter draws less current than a stock starter. (Plus I wanted to support Dan's store, and he was able to ship it ASAP.) I think it weighs a little less than the old starter, but not a real noticeable amount.

The fact that it cranks equal with a smaller battery does make it lighter..... indirectly!! I am sure the reliablity is worth it alone. Great install!! I will put it on my to do list.

I had the opportunity to see all of my clutch/starter/wastegate/exhaust bling last week when my clutch fork gave up.

My car is definately "shiny side down"
