S2 -> 3.0L turbo. How much?

Meh - low pressure turbo setup and call it a day... Methanol injection for more boost.
Like previously mentioned, a 'proper' build will not come cheap.

an 8v head goes on a 16v bottom end and has a bout 9.5:1 compression..
In Brisbane you will still probably get 25+k for you S2 sell it and go buy a 944 2.7 for 7k you will then have 13-18k wich will easy get there

Burning Brakes
Not to hijack the thread, but I have a 2.7 head if anyone wants one. I had gathered parts including the car for a 968 Turbo RS build but sold the car and most of the parts. The head is about all that's left.

Oh I thought you had a 951, if your starting with an S2, that's a bit different. I'm with Rouge, low boost setup, would be the way to go. Source the appropriate 951 parts, that 2.7 head being key and a Megasquirt DIY P&P kit.
I think that could be done for $5000, if your motor is in good shape, your a shrewd shopper and you turn the wrenches. Time line no Idea, but I'd "blue print" in 1+ years.

OK, thats useful to know. Maybe combined with a wide head gasket that would be sufficient for a low boost application?
Yeah, and then I'd just need to replace just about everything _except_ the 2.7 head !

If your carful you could do it for 5k
you can turbo the S2 engine as is run 98 fuel and 10 or 12 psi and make 400hp..
of if you want to go single came i can sell you a good pile of stuff to get started ..for 2 or 3 k
ported reco head intercooler extrude honned inlet programmable Ecu cross over and 3" exhuast ..
you can use the pistons you have you just have to be carful ...

Otherwise there is an intake from SFR available to fit the S2. Lower compression pistons are cheap enough. Intercooler for a 16v should be ok if you modify the turbo mount. Then either a standalone or get a Vitesse setup.

Yeah, I saw that, pricey tho, USD$1200
One reason I was looking going with a 2.7 8V head rather than trying to get a 16V head to work is because all the 951 stuff (exhaust and intake manifolds, airbox etc) just bolts on. Makes it all much more like a kit rather than a custom job where just about everything is bespoke.
To stay with the 16V head might make sense if I was looking for a maxed out, high boost, no compromises build. But for a low boost build, it just seems harder and more expensive.
Are low compression pistons for a 3.0L cheap? I thought they would be a custom job (and therefore expensive). Who makes them?

It would be a case of what was available. It might well be cheaper and quicker to mod a 951 head rather than find a 2.7 and then upgrade the exhaust valves, particularly in Oz, where there is a much smaller pool of local parts to choose from, or shipping from overseas becomes expensive. Options are good. It's all a matter of what's on offer.

Cheapest thing to do would be to buy a running 951 motor. Surprisingly cheap to import from the US or perhaps we might be able to help you out down here.

What, you mean keep my 3.0L short block and buy an entire 2.5L 951 engine just for the head? I don't understand.

You should already be replacing your pistons, anyway. If you are going to do that, just get dished pistons, and run the 4V chamber head. Shoot, depending on your definition of "low boost," you might be able to just add a turbo and run higher octane fuel or a good intercooler with water/alcohol injection.

Nope, just swap the motors unless you wanted 3L expressly. I was working on the assumption that you were chasing forced induction primarily.
If not, the custom pistons are about $1k +/-. You have the crank. Adam has modded head. I think someone was suggesting that S2 rods are forged or do I have that wrong?
