"while preserving 3.0L torque and responsiveness at the low end (for my daily driving)."

ok I'll just point out a standard 2.5 turbo makes more torque at less rpm than a 3.0 people tend to forget this as the lower gearing and quiet exhaust of the 3.0s tricks you .
I should have a real example of a high compression low boost 16v by the end of winter using 968 pistons the plan was to do it on the cheap but things have got out of hand it it now has more designer labels then the grammy awards red carpet motec mugatu carillo del west etc

Here you go. Cheap by comparison 3L. Plenty of mid range torque.

Well mine is not standard but I'll try and remember that as I'm rowing gears in the 30 to 45 mph zone out here in the real world.

I vote high comp, low boost 3.0!FTW!

Whatever the numbers may say an S2 is a lot more responsive on the street than a 951, and stock for stock it is at least as quick on the track.

and stock for stock
Stock, what's that? . Now is it me or do I notice that the only ones saying how great the 2.5 is are the ones not running one? (Talking low rpm off boost stuff here)

the 2.5 has more torque and the gearing in the 3.0 makes up for it ..
so the 2.5 has more torque at the flywheel and the 3.0 has perhaps a shade more torque at the tire ..
there are plenty of people real happy with 2.5 engines and 16v gearing . Rod and Pat are the first i can think of just now .and I'm sure there are plenty more ..

Yeah I have read about that combo probably a much better setup for US cars. But I don't want to give up my top end (that I can't use). 18 lbs of boost makes up for a lot of the laziness. But I get your point.

For whats its worth read and read and learn, but at the end of the day make your own call and be accountable for that, I did, accepted a lot of advice, added my own in depth research and background knowledge and chose a low boost high compression approach, for mild power up to 350hp and as a daily driver this was just perfect - from experience I did it!!!!

However power is addictive and if you choose the previous apprach then the next step is expensive....from experience I wanted more, so I spent lot of money to get there I am now on the 400++ WHP path (depends on whos dyno you choose but the that level is very quick - I know I also ride a modified Suzuki Hayabusa)

Schip43, If you wish to talk to me I am happy to share the path and pitfalls I went down on phone.

Mike, try dyno'ing your car at Tilley's in Brookvale. Known as the heartbreaker in terms of low reads. Very sobering, lol.

Heh, I just got mine dyno'd down there last week. It lived up to it's reputation haha. 222whp at .9bar , it's a killer!
