Love you too Andrew

Went to friends hot rod shop. Found there a very nice '56 Bel Air 4dr HT. One previous owner and 17K miles on it. California plates with '91 sticker on them.

We started to prepare rear suspension installation. More or less all necessary parts are here

Bought "some stuff". Almost complet 951 packed in boxes....

Parts are originally from my friends Pete's 951 he smashed several years ago

Started also work with my Bimmer project. Car is currently at our summer cottage, so it is more or less a weekend project during this summer.

Looks quite OK after wash.

Under carpet it does not look so good.....

Son finished torque tube's surface. It's now painted with 2K epoxy. Turned out nicely. We are going to install new bearings tomorrow.

Tube bearing installation was postponed to Monday. Instead of it we prepared some smaller items like front spindles which were glass blasted, and painted with 2K Epoxy paint (4-layers)

After some grey anti-rust paint

After the first layer of Epoxy

4 epoxy layers

Tomorrow we are going to have a lot of bearings, so we can finally start to put under garriage parts back together.

We wanted to have a factory style dark green brake & fuel lines. We couldn't find locally suitable pipe and also factory offers new lines with other coatings, so we have to made new lines with our own coating.

Raw pipes were first shaped to the correct form. Then we applied special 1K primer. After that some 2K dark green epoxy paint. We are going to add some clear heat shrinkable pvc on that, so pipes will not get any rust on them.

Some yellowish primer

And dark green

We drove to our friend Harri's place (neva951 here on Rennlist). He helped us to press in some bearings

Awesome job
I had a similar dilemma regarding the short metal brake lines in the front of the car .. I wound up just plating them and then clear powder coating them

Just read every page (in reverse order lol). Amazing project. I am doing somewhat the same sort of thing with my 1991 944 S2, except not QUITE as big. I won't be redoing door internals, AC/Heater system etc etc. But I have already restored my entire front suspension. Interior is in fantastic shape, so not much work needed. I've done as much cleaning and painting to the engine that I can without removing the motor. Soon I hope to drop the rear suspension and restore it. Then maybe pull the engine and re-do all of it completely as well as the engine bay. I would LOVE to repaint my underside, but that may be a bit unrealistic.

One main difference between this project and mine is I elected to re-paint most items. Wishing I would have spent the money for media blasting and powdercoating. Sanding everything by hand/dremel is very time consuming and tedious. I have definitely learned some tips/tricks and a new found inspiration/drive for my project.

Here is a sample of mine so far. The yellow is not as bright as it appears in the photo. Also a shot of my S2 and '87 951.

Looks great as usual Olli.
What epoxi paint are you using? Are you using spray can or do you mix the paint and use an air compressor gun?

Thanks, your project looks nice too.

Gustaf, we have used both spray cans and compressor gun. Colors are from Mipa & Lesonal.

We have not set up any date when 951 should be ready. Son's budjet is limited, so car is built more when he have funds available. Engine will be at first more or less standard 2.5L 8V. Evo version parts has been collected though...

To avoid solid (POM) bushings squeak, son made some "grease grooves" with Dremel.
