Question Strange clutch system failure. Guesses?

So last summer I put in a KEP pp/Cup new shift fork bearings/new throwout bearing/new slave cyl/rebuild the torque tube/new shift lever/resin trans mount.

In the last week the car has become harder and harder to shift. Two nights ago I pull into the garage and can't get it in or out of gear with the car running. NO CLUTCH action at all. Pedal is VERY light.

I checked the throw of the shift fork when pushing the clutch. It swings it's full motion. DOH!!! So it's not a hydraulic issue

Going to start tearing the clutch out of it today

Any ideas what failed?

My guess is the fork cracked and failed due to the stiffer pressure plate. It would have happened eventually with the stock pressure plate IMHO.

Time for a Blazack fork

Disk too thin? Other people have had problems with disk thickness with the KEP pressure plate (Jerome951 comes to mind).

I would guess either a pilot bearing going bad or a throw-out bearing/fork issue

While mine wouldn't release w/ the KEP and 930 disk, the pedal effort didn't change between the thicker and thinner cup disc. If the clutch was working fine before I doubt this is your problem.

I'd guess either separation of the PP or TO bearing, or 1 of the fork tines broke/bent.

Regardless of the cause, it sucks to have to go back in there...

Well I made small progress today. (shafts unhooked, exhaust out, 1/2 trans unbolted.). Then I went to the opening day for the Colorado Rockies baseball!!!!!

Hopefully I will get it out tomorrow.

Worst case scenario – you trashed your thrust bearing….

For a quick check get a large screw driver or crow bar and see if you can make the crank move forward (pry at the front pulley – but don’t bend anything!). If you see movement then you have wiped out the thrust bearing….not good.

So strangely it only took us 2 hours to get to the clutch plate. We found the problem.

Is there a stronger option out there? Everything else looked fine.

Why not just get one from Louis and then enforce it. It would be very easy.

First, who is Louis?

Second, not sure I want to weld to the cast part. Also not sure how much I can do without it interfering with the throw out bearing.

This was an original part. So probably metal fatigue. (I hope).
