Default Stock Altenator alternative?

Is there an alternative to the 335 dollar stock altenator? There has to be a cheaper updated version out there?

Get yours rebuilt by a local shop.

Someone posted a "how to" a while back on how to use an alternator from (I think) a Nissan Quest. Might try searching for that.

I tried the nissan alternator, its not exactly a bolt in procedure. Be prepared for some cutting.

I second Luis's opinion on getting the alternator rebuilt. I never charge more than $125 to rebuild an alternator. Just remove it yourself and take it to an alternator/starter repair shop...or take it to a regular shop with an older owner.

Or contact Dave McGrath at Custom Engineered Performance (CEP) for the Nissan alternator kit.

Nissan Alternator.... works great, and its easy to find a replacment if your alternator goes out on a long trip.

The install isn't "that" bad.....

There is not a simple bolt on Nissan or other OEM alternator. There are kits available, but you said CHEAP.

A good elec. auto shop will rebuild your alternator for much less than any other alternative. This is what mechanics used to do, fix whatever broke.

I have a nissan alternator, but I needed a smaller alternator to clear my turbo and exhaust downpipe. You need to purchase a proper kit, and wire it up properly.

There are kits available. You have to make sure that the belt lines up PERFECTLY with the new alternator.

Read the entire post. If you are going this route, use a proper kit. I'm one that had to modify a purchased kit to make it work as intended. Not too much of an issue, but an issue that had to be addressed.

the quest alternator was easy. I just had to grind down the tabs on the alternator itself to get it to fit. Nothing else had to be modified. if you dont put a quest alternator in your car your a idiot and if you need a kit to do it then your still a idiot.

The issue we had was that the pulley's didn't line up perfectly. There was some side rubbing because of the slight offset. It would have worked fine, but I wanted it perfect. First time I've been called an idiot, so thanks.
