Default Would like to rent or borrow someone's rear main seal installation (arbor) tool

Hi guys,
I'm wondering if anyone would lend or rent me the tool used to install the rear main seal (flywheel end) for a 944 Turbo?

I just saw a similar post from someone else, they mention the following tool -

Sir tool #P234
"Arbor needed for the proper installation of oil seal on flywheel side of crankshaft. Applicable: Porsche model - 911 78-94, 928, 944, 968"

That's the way I do it too. I use the old seal as a driver to get the new seal fully seated.

IanM,
I used the tool (rented) when I did the seal in my 968. I think on a 944 the hammer method would work fine. Since you have to remove the bell housing and TT you should have plenty of room.
On the 968 most of the bell housing and the TT remain so there's not much room for hands lets alone a hammer!

Assuming you're doing this with the engine in the car? If not for sure the hammer :-)

Motor is out. That sounds good - thanks guys for the info. I'll just use the old seal to seat the new one.

I used a PVC Pipe end that was the same diameter as the seal. Attached it to a 2x6. Worked well.

1+. A PVC end-cap works very well, just need a little filing and it fits the bore perfectly. Make sure you drive the seal all the way in or it will leak.

I would help you out...except shipping stuff over the border is a real pain in the butt these days! The PVC things is a close second to the factory tool.

Old thread, but for future reference, a power steering pulley is an exact fit.
