...not that there's anything wrong with that....
Actually I must be in the minority but I'm getting a bit tired of Tiff and Clarkson et al just chucking cars sideways and not driving them as you would when you're flat out. Not that I'm jealous or anything...
ps Nurburg, I'm loving your Avatar!

I took Euro delivery of a 1986 model in June of 1986. I still have it. It was not more expensive than a 911 in the US. (I considered one of those too). It was actually about $1000 less than a base model 911. I think in Europe it was about $1000 more than a 911. List Price was about $29,500 if I recall. I saved about 5K taking Euro delivery at Porsche in Stuttgart and they paid for my plane flight over and back. Mine is a "rubber floor mat special". I don't think it has any options; it has full cloth seats, no cruise, no LSD, no Fuchs (those I wish I bought, they weren't that much more). It might have an optional steering wheel (smaller diameter than standard). It didn't even come with a radio. Porsche told me not to get one as it would likely to get stolen at the port and the US radio had a different frequency split than used in Europe at the time. Turns out they were right. The guys at the port stole everything that wasn't nailed down inside the car, including the tire pressure gauge, the special "matched to the interior" leather key fob and all my European maps we used while driving around Europe.
I drove both the 911 and the 944T when trying to decide which to buy. Price was not an issue. I liked the 944T better overall but the 911 had more bottom end grunt and the road feel was more direct. It was a tough choice. At the time I was into the technology of the 944T and some of the controls of the 911, like bottom pivot pedals, reminded me of a Super Beetle. In retrospect, from a financial standpoint, I should have bought the 911 as it would be worth a hell of a lot more than my 944T is now but I never thought I would have the car this long.

I have a friend that bought one new Black/tan from Cook in '86. I thought it was awesome and it inspired me to buy my first 951 in '91. I thought it was a better looking car than the standard 911. It took the '94 3.6 turbo could lure me away. The rest is history.........

I bought mine off the original owner, who was, and still is a customer of mine. It is an 8/85 production date, no 3rd brake light so it is a pretty early car. My shop has worked on it since new and at the time it was the first 951 they had seen or worked on. I'm glad that the PO picked all the right options, and that I got paid to do the last timing belt/water pump job on it a couple years back right before I bought it off him!

I sold my 951 a couple years ago, but I bought in new in '89. Back then the market for 944's was so poor the dealers could barely give them away. I got mine at 25% off MSRP.
