Default Who purchased a NEW 951?

A thread I saw elsewhere got me wondering if there was anyone still frequenting this section of the Rennlist who purchased a new 951 back in the day.

As most of you know, the 951 was more expensive that the 911 carrera so there must be some great stories out there regarding buying motives, the ordering process, option selection, first impressions etc.

Personally was alway more taken with the 911 turbo's & only really started yearning for a 951 after buying a great 944 n/a when I moved back to the states from the UK. It was a beautiful sapphire color with black sport seats, 16" Fuchs & LSD, which were pretty rare options. Always too slow, but the feel & handling made me a believer in the chassis...

Does my old boss count?

He had a standard issue Guards, with the phonies, used to detail it every Friday for him. I only drove it once, to pick him up drunk from O'Neil's Irish Pub and drive him home. But that was enough for me. I loved them ever since.

The only reason I ever heard him say was that he couldn't get his clubs in 911. That was all.

I spoke to the original owner of my car at length - he's a retired MD in Utah. He told me that he went to the dealer to order a 911 & fell in love with a 951 on the showroom floor. He would have bought that one, though it was red & never liked bright colors.... He ended up ordering one of the rarest colors (nile green), along with many other nice options - he said he had a very good couple of years financially & wanted to celebrate!

Tiff Needell when reminiscing explain's it was the first expensive car he bought when he made it as a pro driver in the 80's . he tells of found memories of blasting it through the alps to race for the weekend then blasting back and scaring whatever hottie he had on board...
I looked on you tube but couldn't find it if anyone else does please post the link

Oh, he told me. He had a lime green 914 before that. Was an engineer and always liked Porsches. He wanted the fastest, best one he could afford in 1988, and that was a Silver Rose Turbo S. He paid $49,995 for it.

I bought it 12 years and 60k miles later for $12,500 for about the same reason - I wanted the fastest Porsche I could afford!

I have had my 87 NA since new. I am the second owner of my 951 that I bought a little over three years ago.
