Default whats happening.

Been kinda busy lately so I thought I would pop up and toss some info out there!
Here is whats going on in my part of the world these days –

The 3.1 16v race engine is actually at the engine dyno getting ready to be run in. We had to fabricate all sorts of bits a pieces to fit it on the engine dyno – but its getting close (its been a long time coming but that’s what happens when customers work comes first!)

I came up with another project idea recently (don’t worry Rob – its after yours on the list!) – I am fitting my 968 cab with a 3.0 16v turbo. Alusil bore (non sleeved!) with Wossner 9:1, Garret GT3071, Tec Gt set up. Why? Well – a couple of reasons, one – I had the turbo and exhaust parts sitting on the shelf and I thought it would be ‘fun’ to run the higher compression ratio alusil pistons on a street motor.
There was one other reason too – I am turning 50 next year (yes, I am an old fart) and I thought it was time to do something fun – soup up the 968 cab and drive it out to the rockies for a week of ‘touring’. Another buddy of mine liked the idea and wants to come in his 63’ vette he just restored….the birth of the “50th power tour”….this could be interesting! All ideas will be entertained!

So what else have I been doing lately? Well here are the results for todays dyno runs. This is a 2.5 liter race car. The customer OKed posting the results but I will be a little hazy about the parts since it a customer motor. I can say it’s an 8v 2.5 with an Electromotive Tec 3r, dry sump, ball bearing turbo and Milledge cam. The headers, intercooler and intake manifold are stock. The charts are for crank power not wheel power. BTW - there is another 500 rpm in the motor - and the power was not rolling off!

I think this will be a fun track car! (I like the flat torque and the smooth A/F curve!)

I have to admit we had a small advantage – it was 33.4 degrees f in the dyno room!!!!
My fingers were getting a little cold working the laptop!

I was impressed that it was not showing any signs over rolling off at the top end. I picked the 6700 limited as a conservative number so his valve guide wear would not be an issue.

Why does the torque peak, drop, then rise again?

510 +/- 10 from 4700 to 6700...pretty flat!

The variations are due to the stock intake / exhaust tuning and how it works with the cam. The boost pressure also varies just slightly.

Merry Christmas.

Thanks Chris! I'm just trying to learn how to read a dyno graph and see what the engine is doing.

Wow, I feel like a young punk at 48 now! Thanks guys!

Chris, you should route your trip through KC, we'll treat you to some awesome BBQ and beer. Also, my next trip your way is around Jan 10th, I'll try to give you a ring.

Unreal dyno, that power in a lightened car... I made a comment in another thread about 951's not being able to run with modded 997tts, I may have to eat my words.

Regards,

Very nice TQ curve.

The 968 sounds like a hoot .. should feel like a warmed 400 small block.

when you say Rockies, do you mean my neck of the woods?

Rockies is a pretty general term!

I only have two specific targets - Aspen (I lived there for several summers as a kid in the 60’s – back before it was the playground for the rich!) and Santa Fe (Parents live there), other than those two I just want to see some cool mountains and stuff, meeting fellow car nuts would be a definite plus.

Regards,
I warned the owner to be careful out on the track - its a high power lighten car with 275's front and rear....

Oh yeah - I will have to start some sort of route plan, see what 944 sites I can see!
