Glad I decided to pull my head and do the HG
Replacing the HG was just a preventive thing I decided I'd do while I was taking stuff apart. Hadn't shown any signs of failure yet, but it sure did look nasty once I pulled the head off!

NAhh, definately not the original. The one that I replaced was installed in 1993 and ohh man It was falling appart internally. From the picture yours looks like it was going the same route. Your Cylinder walls look good. Good time to add a Lindsey steam vent Kit.

I always pull the head with the headers attached, much quicker. My original head gasket was looking like yours, the top layer was de-laminating. Mine had started to leak a small amount of boost pressure into the cooling system. I am sure yours was getting close to doing this.
I am assuming you are getting new seals in the head so let the machine shop pull the stud. They are much better then most mechanics at doing this.
