Haha, I noticed that. I was about to buy his, you bastard!

I actually ordered mine from a yard in CA (listed on car-part.com). Hubs and spindles from a '94 968 for $150 as well (plus shipping).

Manual brakes supposedly work very well if you go with the big reds/blacks and 5/33 proportioning valve. You can also move the brake pedal linkage up a little bit to give more leverage. I am going to start with that and see how it feels. If I don't like it, I will either add hydroboost or go to a dual master cylinder setup.
Keep us posted on your results. There has been much written and speculated on re even just switching to one of the 'Big' caliper variants. There have been quite a few people that have experienced a soft, spongy, or long pedal. There are many possible reasons for this. One of them being that the standard master cylinder doesn't cope with going up in piston size and some people believe that you need to increase your m/c setup. I did a bit of research and never got any concrete resolution. There was apparently a m/c from a 1990's BMW 7 Series that was compatible with our setup but has larger hydraulic capacity. I tried to track this down through the manufacturer but that didn't get far. They didn't want anything to do with me as I stated it was for a modified Porsche. Liability etc. I have had the Big Reds for some time and generally they worked well with PFC or Pagid Blacks. Occasionally I experienced a spongy pedal and they always felt like there was a little bit longer travel than I would have preferred, but in general they were good.
Olli and Pete have gone up to the 6 piston GT3 front calipers with stock m/c and never complained about excessive pedal travel so in the end I can't make my mind up about all this. Not sure how much a tilton type setup costs but I would consider this if I were building another car with track focus.

Will do.

Patrick,

Yeah, I'm curious how long the pedal travel will be. Guess I won't know until I try it. Maybe I'll post on one of the hybrid boards to see if there is someone local to me who has the manual setup with big reds.

ps, sorry to see your car as it is. Build another one! There had to be at least a few things that you thought, "I wish I had done it this way..." right?

There was someone on here quite recently who I think was also doing a V8 conversion and he came up
with some bracket system for a dual m/c setup from memory. Looked a neat setup.

Well my first priority would be to put in a proper weld in cage and go from there.

Ok, I'm all set with brakes. Buying DanR's setup, which is big reds, GTS rotors, and PFC97 pads. Thanks for all the help and offers guys.

Good setup. I've had the same with good results. I don't think you need the drilled rotors unless you spend a lot of time at the track, plus they crack pretty badly.
Wonder what Dan is moving up to???
Yep that was the bracket thingy I was thinking about. Interesting to read that they say that the pedal pressure for using a Tilton setup vs stock m/c is greatly reduced....

I think he's going back to stock brakes for his racing class (due to rules change I guess). That would drive me crazy to have to do that, but it worked out well for me!
