Default Colorado 944 Turbo S Silver Rose

Hey everyone
I am over from 928 forum and looking for a 88 or 89 951. This my first post over here.

Looked at this one in Elizabeth Colorado on the weekend

http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1426867611.html

Clutch not working, owner says tranny is messed up in a few gears (syncros??)
interior rough, lots of extra wires, poor stereo install etc etc.
Car cannot be driven and started with a boost but overall its rough. He is asking $8K, I offered $4k and was hesitant at that. Would make a good track car I think or maybe an expensive restoration. It also does not have the stock calipers, the tires are worn and the paint is so so. No records and I asked him to see if PO had them, he called but the PO moved back to Russia!
The owner is a nice guy but really clueless about the car.
Just FYI and maybe a good project car for someone.
My best
Gregg

Stay away...even at 4K I think you were being generous. The guy is asking 8K for a car that can't be driven? He's out of his mind!

I'll trade you my 951 for your C4S...

point taken-I'm not buying it. But this guy is having money trouble so maybe someone can get it for much less than what I offered.
Maybe $2500
We'll see

"To calculate the value of the turbo S, take the value of the 944 Turbo, and double it". Uh are you guys forgetting this important rule that applies to the turbo S?

So what do you think its worth Andy?
The owner came back and offered me to buy it for $5k.
Still declined.

Like I said the guy has no receipts and really does not know these cars.
He also claims that the turbo was rebuilt but no proof.

Basically, this car is worth the total of some of the high-value parts on it: a few hundred for the forged rims; nothing for the brakes, since they're not original; a grand for the transmission; maybe a grand for the long block; and another few hundred for small misc parts that you can sell; maybe a few hundred if you're left with a straight shell.

That's it. That's all something like this is worth. It's depressing, but any 944 turbo in rough shape with no records is just a parts car.

If you like this car then maybe start around $1,250 and go as high as maybe $1,825 + find a cheap tranny. There's sure to be a decent one around...

This is the type of seller that will be holding the car for a very long, long, long time and waste everyone elses in the process... In a few months, he will finally dump it.

Return with a "I've come to my senses and now realize the car is one of the most expensive on the road to maintain..."

Bring him a slip of paper showing all the common parts that fail as if they must be replaced immediately, because his service records are not proper.

Tell him you really made a mistake offering the high number because a transmission rebuild is called for at this time... gears are around 750-825 dollars apiece, and second and third are the usual gears that fail... and he can confirm this by calling any Audi/Porsche transmission shop.

I might try some fresh Red Line or Amsoil... lol cuz there's no records of the tranny oil being done and you never know...

Anyway, it has the nice gears so that transaxle still has some value. also the stereo problem w/ the wires is a trip to a decent shop.

one final item...

it always amazes me that the sellers of cars with blown engines or transmissions treat these automobiles differently than if they had been in a significant minor accident...

yet in what way are they different ? in $$$ terms, the car is a salvage vehicle.

./

if anyone buys it, and the plaid seats are in good condition, I'll trade for some burgundy vinyl seats...
