Worked tirelessly over the last 2 days but dont seem to have done much. At least I booked the car in for its new cage in December. Early zmas present to myself

I am going to fill in the old light holes with mesh to protect the oil coolers

I started with an 87T, so needed to add the M030 brakes, AOR transmission, ABS, K26/8, and the front frame rail gussets. Also scraped the undercoating off the bottom of the car by hand. My interior is really ugly under the carpet. I scraped and ground all the coatings off, but didnt clean or paint. So if PCA allows the interior to be removed, I have quite a bit of cleaning and painting to do.

I went a little further than the approved minimum PCA requirements for the converion. I used the Cup manual door mirrors, added the Cup type strut tower bar, had a replica of the factory Matter cage made, non-AC heater/vent control unit, non airbag dash, recessed hood latches, and a few other details that will go unnoticed by nearly all scrutineers.
car looks great Jim, before I start the job as you now have me thinking, how hard was it to remover the underseal and how long did it take?

I like the deleted side lights.

Did you consider a fiberglass bumper? I thought about it - but decided against it mostly because I was lazy - but you did a lot of prep work! Could have done that to a fiberglass one and saved a little weight.

I was feeling energized and could not wait for te FG one to arrive. I also lightened the bumper by removing the washers, metal strengthening strip and light buckets. It is really not that heavy now and I saved $350

Are you putting the turn signals back in, or are those opened up, too?

I was going to cut them out and fiberglass them back in but it looked like a LOT of work so I decided to keep tham as they are

F'ing terrible. Heat gun, 5/8" wood chisel, and about 5 to 6 wire brush/wheels for a drill (it chews them up pretty fast).

I dont think its worth the effort for the weight savings. I doubt there was more than 15-20 lbs of ****, likely less. If your car is overweight, there is easier weight loss other places.

I took it off because I thought it was going to be required. But no one has ever said anything or asked about it. Local P-car shop guys were somewhat impressed when they had it on the alignment rack, but I dont think any scrutineer is going to notice or require it. And it can be legitimately argued that a couple of the Playboy Escort cars were built from street cars by the race teams (and therefore likely retained the undercoating), very similar to the Firehawk S2s vs real factory S2 Clubsports.

I thought it was time for an update (if anyone is interested). Does not look like I have done much but somehow I have been working pretty hard......

sanded down most of the car including preparing the doors, bumper, header etc for paint. I laid some paint today and will spray ythe doors and valance white tomorrow. Actual cr is now up in Boston getting a new cage welded in to cup car spec (997 cup spec). I have bought most of the bits I also need to complete the build. Here are a few more pics

first time Ihave sprayed and I am pretty pleased with the results. Only base coat at the moment as my hardner did not arrive for the clear. Not sure whether I should wet sand the color coat with some 1500 or 2000 grit??

Haha, I think my wife would kill me if I did something like that in the house... (Oh wait, she's got an engine on a stand in the laundry room). Very impressive what you've done so far, your dedication far exceeds mine!

Nice work Dan although I hope that you're going to fix that SCRATCH in the following picture before going any further.
