Default 944 Turbo Cup rebuild begins - PAINTED

Thought I should finally post some pictures up of what will be my G class 944 turbo cup replica when complete. I currently run G class as a prepared car and run bigger brakes etc but the lure of 230 lbs is very appealing. so the journey begins.

My plan is to respray the interion and exterior and then install a
new cage
fiberglass hood and bumpers
new halo seat,
delete the sunroof
manual steering
new splitter
return to S4 brakes pads and rotors
a full mechanical maintenance inc
wheel bearings
repack axles
LSD repack
rebuild turbo
injector balance
spark plugs and wires
vacume lines

replace with a light battery
968 mirrors
new set of wheels
3 piece cross member

not much really.................... so here are some pictues of the journey so far

Ever try to fold a piece of paper then straighten it out? Was the crease ever completely gone? Nope

I was amazed at how it went. I used an epoxy 2 part primer and it went on so fast and so PERFECT I was amazed. Covered the metal very fast and was so smooth. so much easier than using cans!!!!!

it may not look that bad but the transmission tunel was VERY bent as was th3e floor as was the roof. They could have pulled it but it would have been as expensive as a reshell (if not more0 and I would still have a bent repaired shell. Better just to get a good one and start again

Dan,

Good choice if you want to run the car in G. A progressed Turbo S will not (or should not) be able to keep up with a Cup/Escort car, even if the TS is running an S2 r/p. The weight is a big difference and the Escort chips make some extra power that a regular Turbo S shouldnt have.

You and Van working on doing this together? If not, may want to take a look at this - some notes from when I did the conversion:

I looked at his car at the Glen right after the 'biff'...the chassis was toast. Good choice to start over – nice looking work!

I need to make a 'cheat sheet' for cars and their owners and their rennlist names sometime! I see a lot of familar cars at the club races and completely forget who goes with what car!

Dan,

I have probably posted most of these somewhere before, but in case you have not seen them (sorry if its repetitive).

I started with an 87T, so needed to add the M030 brakes, AOR transmission, ABS, K26/8, and the front frame rail gussets. Also scraped the undercoating off the bottom of the car by hand. My interior is really ugly under the carpet. I scraped and ground all the coatings off, but didnt clean or paint. So if PCA allows the interior to be removed, I have quite a bit of cleaning and painting to do.

I went a little further than the approved minimum PCA requirements for the converion. I used the Cup manual door mirrors, added the Cup type strut tower bar, had a replica of the factory Matter cage made, non-AC heater/vent control unit, non airbag dash, recessed hood latches, and a few other details that will go unnoticed by nearly all scrutineers.
