Yep, happened on the street. I had only been in the car for about 45 seconds too which makes it really weird. I still don't really know how it occurred. I think it was a combination of things, but I can't say exactly. My recollection of the event is still hazy. I don't have a clear non stop video type memory, more a bunch of snapshots. It could be a combination of too cold tyres, something on the road surface, boost kicking in, driver error, oncoming lights and whatever else.
Basically I was going around a fairly tight rh corner at night. Something startled me which I believe may have been lights of an oncoming car or a car doing a U turn or something just unusual. I think I jerked the wheel to the right a little and felt the tail come out a bit. I believe that when I braked, my foot must have slipped off and onto the accelerator and I started to completely spin in a clockwise motion across the oncoming lane. I then hit some parked cars on the other side of the road with the front left side of my car and then into the whole left hand side of the car. Then I think someone who had been travelling in the opposite direction hit me in the rear rh side which may have pushed me forward into another parked car. So there were 3 other cars involved not including mine. I am very lucky that nobody was walking their dog or whatever and that the lady in the oncoming car wasn't hurt. I was taken to hospital in a neck brace and kept overnight and into the next day while they did all their tests. They had told me that there was some sign of a fracture in my neck so they wanted the specialist to check me out in the morning. Lying on my back in Emergency all night with that concern is no fun let me tell you. Very luckily I am ok though. Bit of a sore neck still.
Worse still, I thought I had insurance to cover damage to other cars but I don't. I had stopped comprehensively insuring my car because it was so undervalued and expensive, plus if I crash it at the track it's not covered anyway. So now I'm waiting for all the various insurance claims to come in and then deal with all this. It's going to be a very expensive lesson. They should make it compulsory to have 3rd party property insurance like many other countries. I have since learned that many of my friends and work collegues thought the same as I did re the basic insurance, that you are covered for damages to other property, not just other people.
So as far as a silver lining goes, well it's pretty obscure at the moment. I have found out that 2 of the other cars involved have been declared write offs but I believe that's because they were older cars. This is very fortunate for me. I don't know yet on the other 2 cars. This on top of some other stuff that's going on in my family life makes things a bit tough, but I'm being as philosophical as I can. It could have been a lot worse. Somebody could have been seriously hurt or killed. I am VERY thankful that this didn't happen. The car is just a car and while I'm very sad to see it in this state, life continues. I won't be repairing it. I'm not sure what is going to happen. Just waiting for all the insurance claims to hit me.
We'll see.....

No Sid, it doesn't. I made that mistake thinking it did. Just what the total damages bill is I don't know yet. It will
obviously have a major impact on me financially and there's not much left in the kitty after all these various
projects plus the Global crisis...so it's just a matter of waiting and see what I'm up for.
Not a nice feeling to have hanging over my head. As far as whether I'll be able to continue
in the 944 world, I just don't know. It's a lot more expensive out here than it is in other countries.
I may have to sell everything at a big loss just to scrape together money, but I'm clinging onto a
dream that some sort of Phoenix like rise from the ashes may still be able to take place...just
not in the immediate future.
Thanks for all your concerns guys. I really appreciate it. I've always felt bad for other guys that
have crashed their cars and we've lost some good 'uns recently with Pete's and John's coming to mind.

WOW. I just looked that up as I couldn't believe it! I have now read it and I still don't believe it!!
You have to have an additional 3rd party property insurance to cover other cars!

What exactly is covered then by the required insurance? Nothing...?!

The standard insurance coverage is just if you injure a person. It doesn't cover damage to property. This is a crazy system as you have all these people running around who are uninsured for similar incidents. This will only put a further strain on the insurance industry, and then families etc. It's insane, but I blame myself for not realising this myself. I just mistakenly assumed. ERG.......

Thanks Dan. I will follow projects like yours from afar and with a little jealousy. lol
You never know what might happen in time though. I still want to get a
proper track car together.

I don't blame you for not realizing either - I would have assumed my insurance was there for that purpose and would have made the same mistake.

I am bummed about your car - it was one of my favorites on the board.
