Ok...so I got stumped earlier tonight when I went to remove the cannister. My 951 had a 1/2" line coming from the cannister and running underneath the car. Ran down and on top of the black plastic pieces on the the under side. Just sat there. Not connected on the other end, just open to atmosphere. It was held with two red zip ties.

Went and checked out my S2 as the 951 didn't look factory. Sure enough, the S2 has a line that's routed in a very "factory" like way, and goes somewhere to the rear of the car.

Has someone already possibly vented my tank to atmosphere? And what do I do with the hard metal line coming up on the passenger side on the back side of the motor?

This system was mainly for the US market. Most european cars did not have it. If i remember correctly the fuel tank plug (or what ever it is called in english) is vented type on cars which did not have this system. Don't know what kind of emissions tests you have there but this is just fuel fumes which are cleaned.Do they measure it some how, or is it just a visual check.

Olli- Can't honestly tell you. Don't have emissions checks in my area.

Your car didn't come with any of this on it?

Oh I see.

I really just want to know where this line needs a breather installed at and if the hard line coming up the passenger side of the firewall needs removed.

On this cannsiter system, isn't there a line going to and from the gas tank?

A friend has his whole system removed. I notice a little fuel smell every now and then. That is it.

The vent line from the tank is a soft line until it gets to about under the passenger seat area, then it turns into a hard line, the one you see on the passenger side of the engine bay firewall (probably for heat resistant purposes). That hard line can be removed.

There is only one vent line from the fuel tank, not another one going back to it. The rubber hose you see that terminates under the car after the canister is simply a vent hose (to atmosphere). That's where the pressure from the fuel tank escapes to after it passes through the canister when the car is not running. If you are removing the system, then you can remove all of this stuff.

So maybe I just need to trace where the S2 hose goes. It goes past the torsion housing and up somewhere.

But sweet...will remove the rest tonight! Now whether or not to do it on the S2. Hmm...

I haven't got to pulling the hard line yet. What do you want pictures of?

I would like to request a pic of where the hard-line meets up with the tank. I'm failing my evap really badly, after I replaced the long line across my firewall and the one connecting the two hard lines. Wondering if I need to inspect at the fuel tank as well.

Plug the hard lime and drill a TINY vent hole in the inside surface of the fuel cap. Done.
