I'm shooting for around 400whp. It's not the HP that gets us, it's the torque.

There's really no limit or good place though. Have a well built functioning car, and 525whp will be just as good as 225whp. Just don't get into the throttle too much.

In reality though, it kind of depends on if the car is a daily driver or not. One reason I'm going for 400whp or more is because my car is very limited use...and the only reason it comes out is for fun. Some guys on here can't look at their 951 that way. 300whp would be good for a daily driver though. Enough to pull away from quite a few cars on the road and more then enough passing power.

How much hp for the street, fu%k I can't believe we are discussing such thing. First our cars our not made to race on the street but on the race track. Second is not about hp, but the equation is a balance between weight/ power/ suspension, you need a perfect balance. 300rwhp on stock suspension is aiming to get killed. This is absolutely outrageous, you guys are sick f&cks.

I am a sick f*ck then!!!! :P. I think my stock suspension with the LR 300RWHP kit is holding up quite very well.

i think that if dodge can make a 500ci/500hp/500ftlbt motor then a 251ci/300hp/250ftlbt sounds rather reliable and reasonable to me for the street... and better yet if chevy can make a 350ci/500hp/475ftlbt car streetable then i dont see why a 251ci porsche motor cant yield the same kind of number ratios reliably too...

Depends on the user.
If you have been around high hp cars all your life, under 300 hp seems gutless.

I agree these cars are not great for high hp but with a proper turbo selection (read <<<does not follow own advice) these cars are pretty fun at 350 hp.

However, some like the feel of that top end pull and over 400 seems to fill the need. Of course you have to have all the other items to go along with that power.

Myself, I if I were building (using the stock shorblock platform) a very fun street car I would

use
a gt 30 r (or 2871 for 18 psi setup)
968 trans
supporting AF items for 20 psi

My other ride is a Hayabusa that wasnt fast enough how it sat.

Before that I had a highly modified GSXR1100 that the modifications were good enough so I sprayed it (88hp of spray).

Now, we look into power to weight.

So i vote for 1000-1200 hp for a 951.

Power wise I'm leaving my car pretty much stock. 3" exhaust, LBE, and a Weltmeister chip is enough. Just quick enough to be fun. These cars have enough reliability issues without trying to pump 400 hp through it (when they were originally designed to be 217.)

Past experience though - generally ~350rwhp is about the limit for street fun. I recall my buddy's old LS1 T/A was a blast to drive on the street with basic bolt-ons (put down 326rwhp.) Once he ported the heads and put a big cam in it (~425rwhp), while the car became a whole lot faster, it was less fun. You had NO traction until damn near 3rd gear - everything until then was wheelspin. So in order to get the rush of fast acceleration, you pretty much waited until 3rd. And by that point, you were already doing 80+. A big ticket no matter what state you're in. When it was stock, 1st gear was snotty and squirrelly, and you still got traction and a good shove in the back in 2nd, making it fun to squirt up to (or just past) the speed limit. My old Z06 was around 370 at the wheels with an intake and long tubes, but it also had traction to hook up (though just barely.) Any more power and it would just spin.

This is why I was looking for about 340-360whp. That's the perfect range if you ask me. Think about most of the cars on the road today. The fast ones are all between about 260hbp and 400bhp. Most of the higher powered cars are north of 3k-3500 pounds. In terms of power to weight, a 951 at roughly 3k (give or take a couple hundred), is at an advantage with most of the cars you'll see if it's laying 350ish at the wheels. That's ROUGHLY 400 at the crank. Think about it. People saying 350 is alriiiight. Folks, that's what the C5 Vette makes (:EDIT: C5 Z06). That's what the new C6 regular makes... Okay, its 420ish. But Even the Vettes are 3200-3300ish. So I would fully expect to be as fast as a Vette, even with maybe an exhaust or something. That's a BIG surprise to most anyone on the road.

Oh, and forget that SRT8 nonsense. Yeah, they make 400+ hp, those things weigh in at a buttload, so that shouldn't be an issue. What are those Chargers- like north of 3500-3700? They're yachts. I'd be perfectly happy, knowing my car was at roughly the same power output as a corvette or Charger SRT8. Yep.

PS ..... My 130whp NA engine works fine on the street. It cruises at and over 100mph all day long. I can pass cars on the highway (as long as they keep their foot out of it), and with such a small, light car, I don't have to downshift going up hills on the highway...... but WTF? Why not have 400hp?

I think the question is kind of dumb. The answer is not a number. The most/best HP for the street is the amount of HP that keeps a smile on your face!

lol i hear ya but i run with a bunch of guys and they all have 2005 and 2006 and two 2007s .
anyone ever run against the c6 vets? from a 30+ roll that is.

944obscene dont forget when running againt an SRT8 you will more than likely be running from a 30+ MPH roll where the 3700 on the srt8 is barly a factor at that point.

My shop is expecting 375-400, did a complete rebuild all internals strengthened,lightened,replaced etc. the car was an S2 so it should be a huge improvement.

My other car is a stock turbo S + chip, which is plenty fast.

But for this one since we were replacing the S2 drivetrain with a turbo S setup, decided to put all the good stuff inside from the start.

Suspension upgrade to KW variant 3, brakes to 993 TT tires done.
