The BPR7ES is even factory stock equipment for some cars, they are not a significantly cold plug.

I guess if all he does is cold-starts and .5miles trips to the corner store then maybe a 7es is too cold.

what is the Porsche specified plug for a 951?
I agree, either would work fine, with the caveat, that a the heat range difference MAY foul more under certain service conditions...

The stock is 6, but as soon as you do any mods then can't really use the 'factory-fill' argument.
I can get any plug to foul with poor enough tuning...

Why don't we start a poll to see how many guys have fouled the 7es.

If my tunning was off, I would have blown my HG already these last 2 years since I had my head and exhaust manifold gaskets done. I have creeped up to 16 or 17psi in third at times, my plugs all burn evenly and they are the tanned greyish color they are supposed to be... and I drive 34 miles daily roundtrip to work, the Bosch Super Plus are great and they are better quality than the NGKs and it is visibly obvious, plus LR uses them and they are OEM...

You tuning can be off and not blow a head gasket.
I'm curious on how you can determine that the Bosch is better quality then the NGK...
They work good for you, great. You choose to throw in a hotter plug, instead of fixing the cause... To each their own

Hotter plug? Those are the plugs the application calls for, as is the BPR6ES, the equivalent.

Different plug manufacturer, not all the heat ranges are equal.

What do you mean by that?
Apparently the bosch plug refered to in this thread (I guess it would be the WR7DC, or whatever is listed in the owners manual) equals the "6" from NGK, does it not?

That means that even though two plugs might referenced for the same application does not mean they are exactly the same temp.

I can add a data point on the plugs. In my car with a TEC3 my driveability is better with the Bosch WR5DC than it is with the NGK BPR7ES, and yes I have had the NGK miss in the engine with no tuning changes and when switching to the Bosch Super + WR5DC, the car runs better. I know the driveability thing is a completely subjective feeling, but it is there, at least in my car.

No dyno comparisons or anyway to quantify it, other than for me, the standard is now the Bosch versus the NGK in the past.

See, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a tunning issue at all, it's just that it would be the "easy" answer to most here to say it is inproperly tuned, but it's clearly obvious that the Bosch do perform better for some like you and I, and the NGKs for others, different strokes for different folkes...
