Buy car back from insurance or let it go?
#16
Well yes I have full coverage through State Farm insurance. They're a great insurance company. They constantly told me if I needed to go to the doctor to go since I also had some 5000 dollar coverage for medical related stuff to myself. But thankfully I was fine.

UPDATE: added 2 pictures my friend had snapped when he had his phone with him
I took off the emblem on the front of the car and the ashtray from the cars interior cause it was ful of change.
Just noticed the windshield is cracked from the airbags.

The windshield is most likely cracked from the hood being pushed back against it.
<edit: black: you are absolutely right, I should have paid better attention to the photos>
Looks very similar to the damage that was done to the car I drive now. Buy that baby back, you could prob. make a grand just flipping it as is to someone who has the time/space to part it out.

Just curious how fast were you going when you poped the tire jumped the curb and hit the 20 mph speed limit sign?.... that dosent look like 20 mph of damage to me... look about 35 -40 on impact
it looks worse then i thought. i would still investigate how to fix it before buying it back. if your going to part it then thats a route to go as well

My insurance company is giving me 9,800 dollars for my 87 944 turbo with 94k miles on it.
Unfortunately I hit a 20 mph speed limit sign when I popped a tire and jumped the curb. I missed the crash beam in the bumper by half an inch and the sign tore into the side fender of my car pretty badly. Its about 8 inches into the car, near the front passenger side tire of my car.
The engine seems OK as damage didn't really make it all the way to the engine. And the transmission works perfectly fine too. I have like a book of maintenance records for the car as well and everything was up to date.
Now I can either turn in the title to my car and get a check for 9800 OR I can turn in 15% ($1470) of their offer and get a check for 8,330 plus get my car (In the condition it's in) back.
Do you guys think its worth getting the car back, because I believe I can probably make back the 1,470 parting out the car, but I don't really know how to take the engine out of the car or anything. How much do you guys think my car will be worth parting it out here and there.
Thanks for the help guys.

when i was t-boned in the 87944s in feb '05(someone turned left in front of me), the other agent didn't want to be bothered with any of it and literally, gave the car to me.
i took what i wanted and gave it to a friend who did the same and then he had the carcass towed off.
i suggest tyou bump it up to a supervisor at statefarm.

There is little chance they are going to "give" him the car. I had to buy mine back from Nationwide. It is thier policy and it is a money making (or savings depending on how you look at it) aspect that the agent has zero control over. Unless he personally is underwriting the policy.

State Farm is great. I switched to them after I was hit by one of their clients, due to how they handled my claim. This was about 15 years ago.
I'd be very inclined to buy it back. The engine alone is probably worth that much. If nothing else, you could probably sell it here for more than that. Hmmmm....where are you located?

Because of where you hit, it could easily require frame straightening, but it can be done.
It is the norm for doable bodywork to exceed the nominal value of our cars, that's why they get totalled so often.
If this particular car is worth the ten grand to you, have it fixed and don't look back. "The market" doesn't value your car the way you do. But try to do it without ending up with a salvage title. Can you withdraw the claim? (BTW, I have been there and done that a couple of times.)
You could also put the money toward another 951 or something else.
Parting a car is a whole different deal with time, space, tool, and expertise requirements I don't know about.
