Default Vintage @ Watkins Glen

Its three weeks until the vintage weekend at Watkins Glen – this is one of the best spectator events of the year!
Lots of very interesting cars from early 1900’s right up to an ex Schumacher F1 car (last year). Lots of Porsches and lots of cool people to hang out with. Last year there were several 944s running in the event.

Friday afternoon / evening there is a ‘reenactment’ of the original race circuit – public roads with a section right through the downtown of the little village of Watkins Glen. A lot of the race cars come down the hill from the current track and make the run around the course. The village shuts down the road and in the center of town the local bars/restaurants set up beer/food outside and there are car shows going on. Right after the reenactment the streets stay closed and there is a large street party of ‘car people’. Loads of fun.

I will be there with the RV camping for the weekend (parked at the bus stop as usually). Look for a large ‘vintage’ RV – silver with black and red – and a Porsche banner in the window. Stop by and say hi. Or give me a call – 315-636-8716. Remember that it is a race weekend – might not hear the phone!! Leave a message!!!

Looking forward to it Chris. If I decide to camp at the track, I'll be sure to crash your Bus Stop party in the evening.

Also, for anyone interested, I have organized a Porsche Corral and Hospitality Tent for the weekend. Located track-side at the top of the Esses, all info can be found here http://www.niagarapca.org/events/40.

A couple other items worth mentioning: There is a classic/vintage Auto Auction on Saturday at the track, 63 vehicles registered for sale so far. Lyn St. James has been named Grand Marshal this year.

Have fun! Wish I could be there to watch (or drive!!) but alas, I have other plans.

For those that are unsure if you want to watch the "reenactment", let me tell you that it's worthwhile! Great fun to see these cars roaring down main street at 80 MPH.

No, my next event there is the NASA race in five weeks. You should join us, we could use more entries in the GTS Challenge series.

Ok, I am definately going. Just bought the tickets online, will be there sometime on Friday. I'll be staying in Corning though. I'll touch base with you guys as we get closer to this. I've never been to this event before, but I can only imagine the turn-out.

I organized the Porsche Corral and Hospitality area by Turn 3 for 85 guests, had Lyn St. James over for about 40 minutes chatting and answering questions. Camped at the track, got stupid silly. What a great weekend.
