Default FS large Behr oil cooler $90

This Behr unit is in excellent shape, almost all the fins are perfectly straight. Black paint is in good shape, a few places where it was come off but for the most part it looks good.

This unit is about the same size as an RX7 oil cooler which is a popular upgrade for 951s. It is a little smaller but is still about twice the size of the stock 951 unit. Dimensions are 20.25" overall length x 4.75" height x 3" wide including fittings, 2.25" core thickness.

Unit is clean inside and out and fittings/threads are in good shape.

Pics with the crossmember are for scale to give you an idea how big this is. Maybe later I can get a comparison picture next to a 951 cooler.

Looking for $90 plus shipping.

looks like a metric compression fitting, thread OD is about 21.7mm, not sure what that really means for AN size or whatnot. i might head to a big hardware store later and i can check for you. heres a pic though if you can figure it out

Is it a steel fitting that gets screwed into the cooler. Or is it a aluminum fitting as part of the cooler (non removable).
If it is removable fitting (like the RX7 cooler), what size thread is the other side of the fitting (the one that screws into the cooler)?

it appears to be a part of the cooler. couldnt get it to budge with a 22mm open end wrench

according to the parts store guy it is a 22mm compression fitting, non-removable from the cooler. however the end tanks look stout enough to remove the original fittings and weld them closed and add new ones on the side if you wanted, would also simplify plumbing a bit

this thing would make a fabulous transmission cooler in place of the coil.

bump for comparison pics. the larger unit is the behr piece, the smaller one is a stock 951 oil cooler.

the behr piece's length (surface area) means more cooling will get done by the time the oil gets to the outlet. more importantly the behr piece has 8 rows for oil to flow through rather than 6 on the 951 unit.

Thats a good price, considering what that costs new!

The part is from early 1980s Mercedes 300D/300SD (turbo), so you could find one of those dinosaurs in the junk yard and cut the pipe fittings; giving you something to start with.

shhh youll let the secret get out

i think youd be hard pressed to find one on those dinos in this good condition...for whatever reason i really like this little cooler lol, the rx7 one i just sold not so much but something about this thing.....<3 lol

the fins are in basically pristine shape, all of them, it holds pressure, and it i cleaned it out with the warm water/dish soap trick a few times, then flushed it and blew air through it to dry it out.
