Default Wrecked 944 - what next

Unfortunately I had an on track incident at WGI this weekend which has resulted in the car being badly damaged. The front passenger side of the car is pretty bent and there is a small crese in the roof, I cracked the windscreen removng a fender. Took it to the garage today and it loooks like the engine is fine which is good news as it has less than 20 hours on it. As most of you know my car is (was) pretty well prepared and has wanted for nothing which makes my decisions harder. In addition to the shell damage there is also damage to rack, front strut oil cooler etc

so decision time

1) Repair car. Been quoted $5k for the pull and respray and I would need to provide a front clip, fender, hood etc plus mechanical. So figure $8-10k. This is a preferable option to keep my beloved silver rose but it is expensive and still a repaired car not a perfect original one. Do I spend $10k for a car that is worth $15k at the end (net gain is $5k which is certainly less than I could part it for)

2) buy a tub and transfer across items from my car. Not a bad option but by the time I but extra bits for broken items the price will add up

3) buy a runner and transfer across my nice items and part rest to cover cost

4) buy a car with a blown engine, transfer across items from my car and part rest to cover cost

5) part the car which should realise $8-10k with the nice goodies I have , cut my losses and buy a boxster to turn into a track car.

My prefered option is 5 however that is the hardest sell to the wife. Anyone know where there is a good option 4???? A car with a blown engine? I may have found one for $2k which is a sunroof delete which I could then turn into a turbo cup replica for G class PCA racing and lose 200lbs vs current setup which should make me more competative

Anyone got any other thoughts?

I like Sid's reply, esp. the sunroof delete option for #4

Unless you want to go to a tube frame front end and FG panels, that tub is bent at the passenger crush rail, light bucket and will be $$$ to get right again - BTDT

How little it takes to ruin hundreds of hours of work, causing us hundreds more.

Sorry, hope you are ok. What did you hit?
I think 3 or 4 would be the best options, if you find the right car.

Hate to see that, hope your OK. I would go with 3 or 4. Either one is going to be time consuming though. Have you called the insurance Co. yet?

Hey Dan, it truly hurts to see your car damaged. I've BTDT not too long ago. Even the most understanding wife is challenged by these things.

2) is almost equivalent in time and cost to building new car. Ask me how I know......
3) & 4) are good options IF the rest of the drive line and the body is sound. You can find a near perfect roller or 'dead engine' candidate for around $2K. Both are complicated by the need to transplant the cage from your original car. I transplanted the cage from my original car to the new tub, which worked well. I'm happy to give you more details on this if you want.
5) may be the best longer-term option, IF you can live with the mess of parting the 951 AND shelling out for a 986!

Are the wheels still straight? At least that's a plus!

Sorry to hear, mate.

Have you thought about an SP1 car? (or are you addicted to the speed?)

Sorry about the incident, glad you were not hurt. BrianA has a blown engine and thinking of parting his 88S. Maybe you guys can work something out.
