How rare do you think the 951 has become?

How rare do you think the 951 has become?
Bare with me here for a second before commenting.
According to the information on Wikipedia there was a total world production of the 951 of 25,107 from 1985 to 1991. A total of 14,235 of those made it to the U.S. That makes the newest of the cars 18 years old.
To put this into perspective GM produces somewhere in the neighborhood of 700,000 to 1 million pickup trucks EVERY YEAR.
Now take into consideration all the cars that have been taken off the road over the years due to accident, fire, etc. (and the rate I see them being parted out here).
I can remember all sorts of classics that one day seemed to be everywhere and then all of the sudden they were unobtainable for any reasonable means.
How many are "really" left?

Mine is still arround, as is my N/A... and both are being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century bit by bit...
Ha...Both cars now have working clocks (knocking on wood to try to keep it that way...)

Since the N/A cars were produced in MUCH larger numbers it taints the perception about the rarity of some of the other models like the 951 (as an example)
Total world wide production of the 944 was 113, 070. (4.5 X the production of the 951).
...and of course some others like the S2, s2 cab are even more rare.

Can't be more than originally made
Being part of a forum like this really taints the perception of how many cars are out there. I had 4 friends that had 951s before buying mine or coming here.
But the reality is there may only be X number left. You just notice the ones around you.

I don't know the numbers, but they are indeed rare. One of the main reasons I love mine so much is that so few people have them. I doubt there are more than 10 to 15 in the city I live in and probably only a couple any nicer than mine, if that. I always get stares - especially from guys my age (38) who loved this car as much as I did when they were just starting to drive. That's the biggest thrill for me...I'm pretty sure I would have given a spare appendage to have a 951 sitting in my driveway when I was 18...so getting to drive one around today is a real treat...no matter the cost (and thankfully, that's not an issue for me or I might not have one! )

More turbo's in montreal to be clear
Or seems like it, past 3 years i've noticed there popularity has risen in montreal. I find my self feeling like I am waving to more and more people driving turbo's that I don't know

In 4 years of 70 mile + commute up and down 95 from Richmond to northern VA DC subburbs, I have only seen 5 944s (1 of which was a Turbo, broken down on the side of 95 about a year ago..victim of an ill fated DME Relay) 1 N/A was being picked up by a tow truck, 1 more NA was sitting on the side of 95 with the flashers on (I was going too fast to stop and render aid...)
They are rather rare arround here, but I have seen more posters on here, claiming to have one... But have not met another lister in person save the 951 on teh side of the road I stoped to offer help to... I now carry a spare DME relay in my glove box....

I see quite a few 944's but not many 951's. When I bought my S2 cab, I'd not seen another S2 cab at all. Then I took it into a shop to have the leakdown test done and there was a cab there exactly and I mean exactly.....like mine. Same options / year and paint. Odd.
I say keep wrecking them, parting them and saving the nice ones. Eventually they will become super rare and will be worth more than they are now. Look at the 914.....

lol I've had 8 at my house at one wrenching session before. In KC, at least, its not that rare a car, altho its a relative thing. Compared to Honda's, yep, plenty rare, but its not an uncommon car. Give it another ten years, tho, and it might much more rare. Given the way these cars are getting parted out and turned into track cars, I would guess that maybe 60% are still running on the road. Not bad until you look at the numbers on 928's... I heard 92% are still on the road, the other 8% were able to be driven home.
