So does this mean we should be thanking Lart for parting so many out? lol
There's probably half a dozen in our city of 5 million people so I guess that's rare!

Which all brings me to the "other" conversations about parting these cars out, salvage titles, "only by well sorted cars", etc.

Seems like any car that could be saved, should be.

Good theory, but it takes money to save them. Pays money to part them. Some are just better letting others live on...there are still plenty out there - not rare yet.

There were (559,451) 1965 Mustangs produced. How many do you see today?

By comparison there were only 25,107 (worldwide) 951s produced.

That is 22 times more 1965 Mustangs.

I guess this begs the question. "what is considered rare?"

At 25,107 total production a car is not exactly common place.

7 billion people on earth. (1 car for evey 280 millon people)

Well I know around the 1969 Z28 Camaro's had a production of 20,302 and look how rare it is to see a real Z28.

Some interesting stats here.

http://www.allcountries.org/uscensus...se_by_age.html

In 1986 there were 117,300,000 "cars" in use according to these stats. Which puts the 951 at much less than 1% of total "cars" just in 1986. This does not include the number for trucks.

I totally hear ya, one day they will be rare. I love unique / low production cars that you dont see many of out on the road.

Id like to scoop up a low mileage stock/unmolested 88S and hang on to it (and actually not mod it) as I think one day the untouched stock ones will be worth some money. But then you get into 968's which I would also like (M030/LSD) - they made many less of those and you can still get those without too much hassle. Too bad we didnt get the really rare clubsport edition as that would be my choice for sure.

My other car (M Coupe E36/8) - they made 6,318 of worldwide 99-02, only 2,870 to the US. I tell you what - people often stop and ask me about it...moreso than the 951 as it seems lots of people have never seen one.

To put this into perspective GM produces somewhere in the neighborhood of 700,000 to 1 million pickup trucks EVERY YEAR.
Nevermind GM, Porsche has built around 25K Boxsters per year for nearly 10 years now.

I have yet to come across another 951 cab in my city and I live in Europe. Coupés aren't much easier to see here either.
