951, Pretty rare. Although, my dad has a series 1 XKE roadster and I've only ever seen one other on the road.

If you care about 951s you should want to see them saved when possible. It is ridiculously easy to total them since they are expensive to fix, the "market" value is low, and probably the parts values are pretty high. I think it is more than dollars and cents.

It does seem to me like there are a lot more selling and parting posts here than there used to be.

At least in Europe it can be easily seen that 951's are getting more rare. Several years ago you could buy good examples about 2-3K€'s cheaper than now. Currently good condition 951's are more expensive than 968s and Boxters. Of course we who own 951s see them more often because we know other people who have them. When you drive around and see all of those newer models you don't pay too much attention on them. All 944s in the other hand you notice for sure.

We spent last summer three weeks in Germany & Austria and this 951 cab was the only 944 model we saw. It was also the only Porsche my sons bothered to look more carefully, because you can see newer models in every corner.

I have one of the only '91 S2 Coupes in Kansas City that I know of personaly. Karl may know of some more '91's around here...but I would have to say my '91 is one of only a handful in this area. I will certainly be keeping on to her as well. With a later build date (#336)...it should retain at least some value. Most 951's though aren't too terribly rare unless they have an interesting color or are optioned a certain way. With a '90 or '91 S2, it doesn't matter if it's a rare color or guards red...the car is rare to begin with, with only 490 and 510 for each year.

Definitely more fun to tell people there were only 509 other cars like mine brought to the U.S. in '91. I had a guy tell me the other day "Why would you want your car ['91 S2]? It's not a collectible or even rare enough". I calmly told him, "...This is one of about 500 brought to the U.S...I think that makes it fairly rare..."

Don't forget about the race car people. There's a bunch of 944/951 cars that were stripped into race cars and taken off the road. I would place the numbers in the low 1,000s if I had to guess how many are actually still being drivin on he street in the US.

I have only seen 2 other NA's. Both in Vegas. One was a euro model and it was TRASHED. I should have offered him a case of beer for it... I think he would have taken the offer.

I've only seen 1 turbo. Driven by some dude in Hermosa Beach, CA.

That being said, I cannot believe our cars aren't more valuable. I know they're not Porsche premiere model, but they are fantastic cars, and at one time were the fastest cars Porsche had (951 S). Usually rare fast cars are worth some coin... except a 944/951

Hey Cory, I believe there area total of 5 91 S2 coupes in the area. Two red (including yours), two white ones, and a black one. It is beginning to sound like KC is the center of the universe, as far as 944 ownership is concerned. lol I drove my '84 to work yesterday and saw two other 944 model cars on the 15 minute drive to work.

Regards,

A nice example goes for about a third of what it retailed for and that ain't bad I guess 20+ years later. Granted, that's with upgrades and probably $5-10k in the car... Good for us anyway that they aren't worth more.

It is strange though...anyone that I take in my car freaks out at how much fun it is and how well it drives/handles for it's age. I think people expect to get in a rattle trap that sounds like a VW bug or something. Little do they know that this one of the fastest cars in the world in it's day and still ain't no slouch - remember the 'eating Ferrari's for lunch...' commercials...

I freaked a guy out in a new G37 at a red light a few weeks ago. He was wanting to drag so I obliged. We ran to 75 in a short stretch and I had him the entire way - finished almost a full car length ahead. I'm sure he thought I had a car modded to hell and back to do that, but not really...

There is one other 951 in my home town (about 100,000 pop), a handfull of NA's and a few 928's and 911's from the 80's era. I have noticed quite a few newer 911's and Boxters though. There must be some money floating around somewhere.
When I was a teenager in the late 70's you hardly ever saw a Porsche of any kind, and only a few BMW's or Mercedes. Times have changed.
I plan to keep my 951 for life so who knows what it could be worth 20 yrs from now when it's 43 years old!

That's a beautiful photo of your sons, Olli. Chips off the old block when it comes to cars, I can tell!

Scott- Not hard to believe at all, I suppose. I'm sure that number is very accurate as well. I'm curious as to how many cars each state received. 510 seems like a lot of cars, but not when you stop to think there's 50 states (although I highly doubt Alaska got any lol).

I would love to see a white '91 S2 though. Don't believe I ever have, even on rennlist. I wish there was a break down chart of how many of each color were sold. My car is pretty standard when it comes to options, but it's still a rare one. Is Jone's old '91 S2 still in town? That was probably a rare car considering the color...
