Default Convince me not to get rid of the 951...

Please convince me not to do get rid of the 951.

Here is the back story. I do not drive the 951. It has literally been driven less than 15 minutes this year. I really don’t even forsee the 951 being driven more than 30 minutes this summer. If it gets driven this year I will be surprised. The reason for this, is I am living part time in Europe. When I come home, I try to spend as much time as possible with the wife and kid and a 951 isn’t a good family car (especially with the roll bar in the back seat).

With car prices being very good, I am considering a Cayenne S. At least with a Cayenne I can drive it any time I am home and the family and I can enjoy it. I know it is a truck. I have driven a Cayenne in Germany (290hp 6 cylinder). Even though they aren’t track cars, they are very nice cruisers and go in all weather. Let’s be realistic and admit that a Cayenne is much more practical than a 951. The 951 (which sucks really bad in snow) simply stays in the garage all winter.

Now, I can buy the Cayenne without selling the 951 price wise. Its wife wise that’s the issue. Its very hard to convince her that I need two Porsches. In fact, I could probably convince here that I could buy a Cayenne Turbo if I sold the 951 and the Hayabusa. Of course she hates the bike so much (well she likes the bike but hates me riding it as she sees the bike as the thing that could crash the cash train) she would probably get off my butt for a Cayenne if I got rid of the bike.

But, really, I have the 951 (and bike) for cars t play with. Sometimes I like working on cars (getting less fun) but I have no time left. It seems that the car could use a more loving owner than me. But I have had a 944 (or 944 Turbo) for many years (I bought the first one when I was 23 and 27 for the turbo..so that’s 15 years that I have had a 944 of some sort).

It seems the “smart thing” would be to sell the 951. Convince me not to do it.

It has been rumored that once you sell your 951, that your ***** falls off...followed closely by your ********* detaching themselves in search of a better home.

Not sure if there is any truth to that, but why gamble?

Every other rational non-porsche folk tell me everyday to sell my car. Because it costs too much to maintain, can't drive everyday (well you can bought i prefer not to daily drive this car), not practical and it's old. On the other hand, i get a lot more people approaching me about the car who appreciate it and say "Nice car, keep it looking good" Lot's of jealously at my work when it bring it in or tack a picture up at my desk. Also, it seems this decade of pop culture is returning to the 80's -- and having this car really stands out i think. As far as value, best bang for the buck thats for sure. I've already named my car "Bitchin' Betty" because she is such a queen. Check out this porsche commercial says 'What what the world be like .... if everything had to be practical" It's for the 911, but i think this commercial really makes sense what Porsche is.

Its not really about being done with travels / money. Its about having bikes forever (I bought my first sport bike..an Interceptor 750..in high school...and that was long before every kid rode a bike). Well, she had been OK with that. She was even OK with the bikes early on and let me trade the GSXR on a Hayabusa when they cam out (i have had the bike that long). However, a yound daughter (4) and a decent job has her thinking that I shouldn't ride the bike because of danger.

My rational is I only ride it a few days a year (and now not at all since I travel too much). Her arguement is if I dont ride it, i dont need to keep it.

The CTT seems like a nice choice...I like them....But I would probably buy the S. They are a better value all around. The Turbo is definately much more fun, but the value is with the S.

The CTT i have driven (in Europe) did not feel nearly as fast as my 951. It was a fast car, but not crazy fast. What was crazy was 5000lbs getting going that fast. They are also much more comfortable than a 951 and it will go fast with 3 friends with you.

get the cage out a 951 has kids seats in the back . You have One kid ... do you kneed a school bus ...?
As your wife will be driving it 30 times more than you see what she wants ... i would think something a little smaller like X5 ,X3 or one of those audi or volvo wagons .
keep her happy and you can have what ever you want ..
