Gents, who would consider the Cayman as a replacement/addition to there 951 when prices come down?
We are looking for the next Porker to start to develop parts for up until the new 998 is released as we missed the boat with the 997.
To this effect we are thinking along the lines of the Cayman as these will make perfect track cars once prices enter the sub $18k and after we have finished our product range for the 964 and 993.
Best regards,
Mark

Mike prices are moving in the right direction mate. I'm not saying I love the styling of the Cayman as the rear is just terrible in my eyes but hell does it handle well and the engines have proven to hold up well unlike the early Boxster and 996's

Caymen (or is it Caymans?) are great cars, no doubt.
I think several of the people on here know my position... early 996s are in the $18k range right now!!
In 10 years hence, if I was to build a spec class racer, a Cayman would probably be at the top of my list.
But, for the next 10 years, while my kids are little, I nee a p-car with a back seat.

No factory LSD available folks.......
Still there are many third party LSD's developed for the Cayman now which do not break the bank making this the first mod on anyone's track list

Aside from the "bubble top" appearance from the side (I wish they'd flatten the top slightly), I think its a dynamite looking car, and there's a decent chance I will be picking one up before long for a DD.
I'll still own at least one 944/951/968, as I am far too attached to those cars to walk away from them, but the Cayman is developed WAY beyond what we have with our waterpumpers. Its hard to beat 20 years of developement and technology.
Gawd help us all if they come up with a factory turbo version.

I've always said the Cayman will be in 10 years what our cars are now. The under dog that guys like us wake up with aftermarket goodies and blow most other cars away. I'm already planning on it

I'd buy one now if I weren't in the unusual position of having lots of money, but lousy credit.
Since I'm not keen to get hosed on interest, I'll sticking to monkeying around with my 944. I'll buy one new in a couple of years, perhaps.
Not really too keen to get a 996/997. I don't really like rear-engine that much.

I just happened to drive a Cayman S around and auto-x track last weekend in the rain. I really liked it. More tossable than our cars because of the conscentration of mass in the center of the car. Steering was direct and had good feel. Engine made lots of power (300+ hp) and very flexible torque curve. It even had the PDK gearbox for the F1 wanna-be's.
I only wonder about the difficult engine access. Probably not a problem when the car is new, but it will need more work when it gets to me in 10 years.
