Default 951 Race/track photos

Just finishing the long winter project and thought I would share some photos. This was a stock '88 951 with 86K miles when I bought it exactly one year ago. What did I do to the car - everything I could think of. Just trying to help the economy!

looks great, I find that rolling the ends of the belts up and cable tieing them keeps things a little neater. I would so like those Mortons!

What did you end up doing as far as the cage? Doesn't look like much changed. I know on the Race/DE boards, some thought it looked a little shakey. Do you have a logbook for it yet? When is your first race?

nice - looks like a great car. Out of curiousity, how did you come up with the idea of the lexan flap at the end of the spoiler? Looks fairly simple yet I imagine it's pretty effective at increasing downforce on the back end

What is that bit plastic on the rear for? Looks like some sort of mount for a wing?

its to increase the air pressure on the rear wing /scoop for a little down force and i must say a brilliant cost effective idea .
the other way to do it is put a big deck on the wing extening out the back may be a little less drag.

Right. I wonder if having it down underneath the lip of the wing would have any negative effects? Anyone got a windtunnel?

So have you had it out on the track much and if so, have you noticed any difference?
Great colour car btw.

Cage changes - we will have to see how it goes with scrutineering. I do not expect any problems with PCA, a local PCA tech inspector did not have a problem with it. I am going to show it to NASA before I do any of their events. My initial concentration is on PCA. My builder will not charge for any necessary changes. My first race may be Mid Ohio in May. I will apply for my license this week.

Spoiler - It's my idea, executed by my fabricator. He has built some similar spoilers for other series. The series of holes will allow different settings for different downforce tracks. One of the problems with the stock spoiler is that it deflects at speed. My first goal was to stiffen the existing spoiler then add the potential for more downforce. We will start testing in the next two weeks. I am in Michigan, a little too cold yet.

Belts - Your right, I just have'nt rolled them up yet.

Another trick thing we did was to add an additional stock radiator. We mounted each behind a modified opening where the fog lights were. Then we fabricated ducts to match the radiators for tight fit.

I still have a few bits to finish. Front spoiler and rear bumper, add fluids, minor wiring and a few other things.

I will post some more after I finish. The fabricator came up with some other very cool stuff for me. Note that the Traqmate is angled toward the drive as do the added guages. Both are made from aluminum, covered in wrinkle paint.

That is a good idea (and nice execution of) the Gurney lip.

Are you racing in a specific class, or is it just a DE car?

Some DE's but I plan to race PCA E as soon as possible. Mid Ohio DE on May 1 with some April testing at Gingerman and Waterford.

I will post the next time I put it into the air. They are positioned directly (8")behind the foglights. I turned them sideways, using one per side connected with #12 braided line. The coolers were modified by adding/welding on a threaded bracket that mounts to the panel directly below the headlight. I also had to eliminate the power steering coil on the passenger side. The coil is being replaced this week with a small cooler to be positioned in front of the radiator.
