Default Best street brake pads for a 89 951

I have a 89 951 running basically the stock brake system, meaning the 928S4 calipers/rotors in front and stock 951 in the rear. The only modification is a set a braided lines. The rotors are recently replaced along with OEM pads all around, (purchased from Porsche dealer as OEM pads and rotors) The brakes feel like they lack bite. Like the coefficent of friction is low for some reason. It was like this even before I added the new components. I bleed the system several times and the pedal is relatively hard. When everything was replaced I expected less friction until the pads/rotors broke in. With OEM pads, breaking/setting the pads was not necessary. Even after 5000 miles, the brakes cannot lock up the fronts or activate the ABS on dry pavement. I had a similar issue with my 87 911 where I was running race pads that had poor cold temp performance. Once I switched to the OEM pads, (textar I believe) the braking performance and feel improved. Is there a brake pad out there that has better street performance, ie better cold friction characteristics? I would like my 951 brakes to perform to their potential.

If you don't mind the squeal, or the price, try a set of Pagids.

ive run the Metalmaster ceramic or "ultimate" pads and they were good but on the track they lacked initial bite. IM currently running Hawk Blue pads which are awsome but too much for street- try some hawk street pads- supposed to be great.

I would like a pad that has excellent agressive street performance. Excellent cold performance with decent mild track or aggresive street driving. I do not want a track pad that only performs well at elavated temps. I was hoping the OEM pads would fit the bill but it is not the case.

I put Pagid blacks on my ex gf's car. She drove it 100% street. If you so much as farted on the brake pedal, youre going through the windshield.

I just bought the same front rotors and Textar pads for my 91 951's front brakes. Don't you love those painted hats! The factory choice for regular 951 and 944S2 pads is Pagid.

I think it's not a lack of bite you're feeling but rather that the brakes are now much more progressive. Does the car stop when you want it to, or are you having near misses at rearending cars in front of you. If you're not, the brakes are working correctly.

Have you tried braking at highway speed? That's where you're going to notice their bite the most!

I have the same problem with pad bite with oem replacement pads. The next brake job will be done with some good Hawk pads.

Unless you're looking at a track application, I don't think it pays to overdo it with the pads. More aggressive pads like Ferodo or Hawk will tend to eat up the rotors more quickly as well.

My factory rotors have lasted 17 years with stock pads. I just bought a set of new factory front rotors to replace them and believe me, they're not cheap!

I tried the PFC Z-Power pads for the street and they work very well. No squeal and excellent stopping power. The PFC 01 pads used on the track were a bit too aggressive (too much friction) for my car with no abs. I also had good stopping power on the street with stock (textar) and Porterfield R4S. My car has the S4 brakes also.

I have replaced my rotors and I know how expensive it is. My brakes suck for what they are, they suck on the street. I autocross my car and think the hawk pads will work well.

try metal masters and they are cheap. They work well for street...track not so much.
