Default Loctite 574

I am building my engine and need to use anerobic sealant to seal the crank girdle. I want to use Loctite 574 but it is kinda expensive. Are there any other substitutes for it? I heard Yamabond and Permatex Grey are silicone and can clog the oil passages, therefore anerobic is a must. Any ideas?

Permatex makes an anaerobic sealant, you can find it at NAPA.

The smallest (.5 0z..?) tube WILL NOT be enough.

If you had the girdle off....you took the opportunity to change the main bearings right...?

Over $200 for mains and you are scrimping on the sealant...?

The 50 ml bottle of 574 is under $30 and will do several engines.

1.69oz Tube for $20. Here If that isn't in your price range then you shouldn't be modding a 951....

And I just noticed your in NJ. So you can do a will call pickup from the Lawrenceville distribution center if you don't want to pay shipping.

Thanks guys, this is a complete rebuild, I already purchased new mains, rods, ect... money is not really an object here, I just don't like getting squeezed on the price of a anerobic sealent that was designed 30 some odd years ago. Thanks for the links some of you provided, I was getting hammered at the local Porsche dealer on prices for 574 and was hoping that I could pic up a substitute locally. I guess I will just order it.

You might want to also order a tube of Curil T for the corners of the oil pan gasket and outer edges of seals.

Dont take it as an insult, as I dont think thats what anyone here was trying to do.

Its just rational thinking. While we all like trying to save a little money, and none of us like waiting for parts being shipped, its definitely a good idea to not skip on important stuff. It almost makes no sense trying to substitute a 30 dollar bottle with a 15 dollar substance. If you spent money on mains, rods, and gaskets to do a proper rebuild, why risk loosing it over the 15 dollars you might save.

Its like what I did with my ex wife. I bought her cars, diamonds, a 2.2 million dollar house, and a chimpanzee made of gold. Then when it came time for our wedding, I had it at Chuckie Cheeses and had our honey moon at Mcdonalds on Rt. 50. Shortly after, she left with everything I ever gave her and now I have nothing.

While none of this actually really happened, no story is not worth hearing. And its 7am and ive been up all night so im shutting up and going to sleep[
