Tom, that was a pic of my old car. And yes, the Wasted Spark did absolute miracles to the responsiveness.

Here are a couple of my former track car, an original 1987 Escort Turbo Cup 944 T. I owned it for 15 years until Sept 2007. I still miss it a lot. Note the fiberglas hood, prop stick, the iron strut bar and the magnesium intake manifold. All of this is OEM.

i like the magnesium intake but why an iron strut bar? surely if weight was the goal steel or aluminum would have worked...

Weight wasn't the goal. Cup cars are/were spec racers. They all had the same set ups, give or take. The brace was for stut tower area stiffening.

It is running a Tec3r stand alone that runs batched injection/spark and uses crank position.
