Has anyone out there rebuilt this grossly overpriced thing? It works fine other than the fact it leaks... I can add alot of coolant for 300 bucks. I was thinking of separating the impeller housing and resealing it?
Yes, there is an O-Ring in there. I resealed mine and it just started leaking again a while later.... perhaps youd have better luck.
I just bought one of these and plan to swap the connector and use it. Same size and everything, just different connector. My motor was starting to squeek as well, so I didnt want to bother re-rebuilding my original one.

I have rebuilt a few by replacing the o-ring and haven't had one leak yet. I am sure if the o ring isn't seated exactly right, it could leak though. I just took the pump apart, took it to ace hardware and found an o ring that worked. It is an odd shape the o ring takes on, but I just fitted a round o-ring into the grooves and it seemed to do the job.
theedge,
You shouldnt have a problem with the different size connectors, just replace it with the housing from the one installed now. However, I bought the same pump about a year ago and it leaked basically imidiately through the seal at the shaft. A replacement pump from the same company did the same. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
Hosrom found a Mercedes Benz pump that's identical except for the connector, which you can cut off your old pump and splice onto the new one. Costs around $60, IIRC.
For those that have rebuilt one, how do you get the impeller off the shaft? Mine is very tight and I don't want to break any of the plastic. This would be a good DIY article as it seems these things are in the maintenance curve for 20+ year old vehicles. Any help is appreciated.
The Audi ..Vw..etc serve the same purpose on those cars and are under coolant system pressure. Only issue may be the way the inlet and outlet pipes are clocked or there diameter.
mine seems to be seized up. Loosening the bracket around it didn’t help.
