Luis I think you need to spend less time thinking about gayness and spend a little time making an early N/A fuel line set ![order](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/order.gif)
Although I haven't driven one, I'm guessing a Cayman would be a fun car to drive. Since I don't have money coming out my a$$ and nothing to prove, I'd probably feel a little uncomfortable driving one with everyone undoubtedly trying to get a look at who's driving it. That's what I like about the 951- those who don't know..well they don't know. I have to admit that I did feel a little gay driving my partner's 996 Cab.

Even with mods, and forced induction, an S wouldnt have much on a 3.0 951. Dont get me wrong, Id own a cayman s. Its got it all, power, midengine, and its a coupe. I still cant justify 70k, when I can build a 3.0 for under 30k including the car before mods. What does the cayman s really have on a 3.0 other than a bit of displacement? The non S absolutely nothing.
If you want to compare modded 951 to modded Caymen S, your still F'ed. The make a twin turbo kit for the Caymen that puts an easy 600rwhp down and did 220mph.
Anyways, I'm done, you guys are right, Luis is gay and the Caymen S can't ever beat a 951(stock or modded).

How much boost to get to 600? Im not saying the cayman S isnt fast. With turbos it could push big numbers. Im just saying the 3.4 certainly isnt worth 40k more than a 3.0 t. A 3.4 tt isnt worth what, 50-60k more than a 3.0t either. Sure the 3.4 will push a bit more in the end, but 50-60k worth more? And again, Porsche has never made a tt cayman.

I can speak with some authority on the Cayman S vs. 951. I owed an '89 951 for 18 years and it had a Vitesse MAF. I sold it a year ago and got the Cayman S. In a straight line my modded 951 would be faster but the Cayman wins in every other category: handling, steering response, ride quality, refinement, fit and finish, etc. This should not be surprising because the Cayman has the advantage of 20 more years of engineering development under its belt.
If straight line speed is most important to you, then put your money into modifying your 951. It's your best bang for the buck. However, it will take more than a K26/6, even with MAF, to outrun a Cayman S. If you value handling and nimbleness, then the Cayman is light years ahead.
BTW TPC Racing sells a turbo kit for the Cayman for about 10 grand. It makes over 420 rwhp. The reason Porsche won't make a Turbo Cayman is well known: it would absolutely spank the 911 Turbo, which is a no-no.

A modded 951 is much more than chips and maf, most of the time guys who mod their 951's do also add things as coilovers, stiffer sway bars, camber plates etc, although I know that the suspension of the gayman is light years ahead a well sorted 951 with a budget of 35k including the price of the car will spank a lot of cars out there that's the beauty of this thing much for less. I personally doubt you can buy a gayman used for 35k alone.
I personally don't see the point of owning a stock 951, I am sorry but that is absurd.

Your arguements and Luis's gayness are not comparing apples to apples. Stock for stock or chipped 951 to stock 08',09' Caymen S (and a lot of people only own chipped 951's) The Caymen is very refined car. The fit and finish is every bit as good as our 1980's car.

This is Tone3721's quote, "Also IMO, Porsche built better cars in the 80's. less mass produced. Time will tell if the new stuff holds up as well. Of course just my .02 cents. In he 80's they achieved a level of quality theyve yet to 1up. Seems like the more years go by the more watered down they become. "
Thats his opinion and I respect that but, I was just saying that the Caymen is pretty well refined. Perhaps he would agree if he owned/drove one.
Trust me, I'm being more civilized than I want to be. Frankly, no one here is comparing apples to apples. Perhaps when Caymen becomes 20 years old, turbo kist will be $4-5K and then they will still spank a modded 951.
You guys are missing the point. I love 951's, modded or stock, but the Caymens are nicer. You don't need to change the suspension or brakes to compete. Put it in sport mode and it will run with a mo30 951 all day. Apples to apples.
ps - I'm ignoring your comments Lart because The original post was from someone that only has a very lightly modded car and would not have beaten the Caymen S.
Your right mod a 951 ala "lart style" and race the same car, the 951 wins but who cares thats not what we are talking about.

I will be getting an 09' Carrera S this spring but I have a feeling, I will be getting another Caymen S and modding it.
