noise and oil in places it should not be
Hi guys,
as usual I need your help
1) started the car today and there is a constant noise like a ticking / whiring noise from the passenger footwel (DME?) is this a noise to indicate that something is on the way out?
2) when I removed my intake there was a little oil in the hard pipe from the throttle body to the intercooler. Is this normal or something I should be worried about
just as an aside, the oil temp gauge I fitted did not work tonight so back to the drawing board. It never ends, esoecially as several new parts arrived tonight
cheers Dan

I think that oil is what gets past the seals in the turbo charger...
I doubt your intercooler is that full - it gets sucked up and combusted by the engine.
As for the ticking, you're on your own with that! (Is it like Capt. Hook's crocodile friend?)

it is not so much a ticking but more a recirculating noise or a whiring noise. It actually comes on as soon as I turn the ignition to point 1 or 2 before the engine even fires up

basically your AOS is supposed to separate the oil from the air going to the inlet of the turbo. It does not especially at higher rpms and you end up w/ saturated vapor in the IC pipes and turbo etc...nothing super serious just as long as theres not too much. Most of it just gets burnt out the tailpipe.

Fill me in on the oil gauge; I'm going down that path soon with a VDO electrical unit and a sandwich plate.

hhhmmmm HVAC, i removed the vacume canister when I changed my vac lines. could that be a cause? I also took the aircon resevoir off in anticipation of my ac delete.
I have also had my calipers off recently so ABS? the plot thickens!
As for oil gauge, fitted the sandwich plate and gauge but guessing I have a lose connection somewhere

ABS should be a no brainer. Remove the passenger front wheel well liner and the thing is there in broad daylight. Just touch it to feel if it is freaking out. Shouldn't be doing anything with the car sitting still.
If you want to stick your head under the glovebox, there is only a plastic cover over the vacuum solenoids, so you'll be able to tell if it's them ticking.

took the advice and fiddled with the HAVC and sure enough the niose changed tone and frequency when I played with the temp dial and fan speed. I think this points to a HAVC issue but what is it likely to be. possible fix?
