Default West Coast Emergency - Need 1-3 LATE spindles at Thunderhill ASAP

We just broke a left one here, and don't have another to fix it.

You will have a massive thanks if you have one. We need it bad. Preferably both sides if you have em, just in case.

If you can help me, please call me immediately. I am sitting in the paddock at the track with a busted car and unhappy team. We can get to Sac immediately, or any time tonite.

I am on a borrowed laptop so if you can help me.... please call or text the number below.

THANKS from many anxious people.

Eric is about 2 hours away and on the way down here right now to pick up both spindles from me. It beats his other option of driving to Fresno tomorrow in the fog for an added 6 hours or driving back to Portland to break down a parts car. Actually they are 86 951 spindles he was looking for, the late in the title above threw me off.

He mentioned Elk Grove as where he found them and I knew it had to be you ! Mentioned Steve and he said yes.

Good -- He also has My contact and Ken Huey's numbers as well as Easy/Parts Heaven phone numbers.

time to upgrade....86 spindles are a known problem on the track. You can bolt on a set of later spindles to an 86 and it will work, even with the 86 offset wheels.

If you keep the 86 control arms you can also keep the 86 offset wheels, if you change the control arms you will need to change the wheels.

I have a club race customer that broke 2 86 spindles in one weekend, he had a lot of $ in several sets of fancy 86 offset wheels so the fix was to use the 87+ spindles and hubs with the 86 arms. It also had the benift of easier rotor swaps due to the later hub design.

There is not real benifit of the 86 vs 87+ arms other than the slightly better suspension design of hte later offset.

Should I be worried about my spindels then? I am setting up my car for DE days, nothing aggressive, it'll be a drive to and from DE track car. it is a 86 though.

I think their problem was on the spindle knuckle drilled out for an oversize ball joint pin, not an actual spindle shaft failure. Is the most common failure on the 86 part from the spindle shearing completely or something else?

The spindle shears off. I've personally seen three '86 cars break spindles at the track - two lefts and one right; on cars that had seen a lot of track time. Drivers were OK, cars took minor damage. One happened right in front of me going into turn six at Laguna Seca - took the owner several hours to find the wheel at the bottom of the hill!

If still needed at Thunderhill, I'm in Napa and have a set of 87+ turbo spindles and hubs that were used on an '86 turbo using the early offset a-arms and wheels.

Stre tires - no
track tires - yes.

Really bad things can happen when the spindle fails!

I am going to be running an aggressive street tire like pilot sport cups or falken azenis. Should that be just fine? The car will probably only see 6 or se DE's a year (but running two classes for me and my dad)
