some "dirty talk" is required

can be a real dirty MF, especially if the last person in there damaged the fasteners.

I finally coerced it out...took hammering a standard screw driver into the slots to widen it a bit...finally it let go and the transmission came down without issue! The bolts came out fairly easy and no damage was done to the coupler itself tho! I think I'm lucky, most posts I read when I searched were about the tabs breaking or the bolts stripping.

Good Job Bro, I had to fight with mine as-well. Although I didn't have a trans jack. I had to do it the old fashioned way...Get under there and man handle it. It was a total bitch. Glad you got it out! Now get to cleaning!!! Have fun...

The trans jack was amazing! Harbor Freight special. Found out about it on a thread here that was almost 2 years old!

How exactly did you clean your transmission? I don't exactly want to polish mine, but I want it looking nice. I have new seals on the way so it won't get like that again (hopefully).

I used a steam pressure washer on mine. 3M CC4 cable cleaner helps with a plastic brush too.

I just used a engine degreaser. Then scrubbed it with a brush. Good old fashioned elbow grease! I painted the case with High temp paint.

Ok...I bought a transmission re-seal kit. As you can see, my drive flange seals are leaking, and I think the input shaft seal is on it's way out, too. When removing the passenger side diff cover...is there anything crazy going on with the oil pump system?

Modded, why are you removing the diff cover?

You only need to do that to service an LSD. If you do remove it be very careful. There are flanges that allow a gentle prying to get the cover off. Its a tight fit and uses anearobic sealant. You do not want to damage the sealing surfaces in anyway. Drive flange seals are done by removing the flanges and then prying out the seals.

I was going to do some research before I do, I was just psyching myself up to tackle the job. From the sounds of it, they shouldn't be my problem. I know the flange seals are leaking tho so they will definitely be replaced!

Understood.

If you don't have an LSD then you don't want to be touching the side cover. Flange seals are very easy to replace and they are done from the outside.

If you have an LSD and want to check/inspect, then its fairly straightforward after removing the side cover. If its an LSD check breakaway torque first. If it has some (its a very low test value) then the LSD is likely to be fine and not to be touched.
