Do you still have the 924 engine cross-member + steering rack?
Been thinking about the pistons again - since they are NA they should not be slightly conical like turbo pistons, and I find quite surprising you have got away so far with not scoring the block... Did you measure piston-to-wall clearance before assembly? How many km on this short block?
Really interested in this as I have a complete 968 engine in the cellar but after having spent loads on the 3L 8V I'd rather find cost-effective solutions for a 3L 16V...

Yes, still 924 steel crossmember and steering rack. Crossmember is modified a bit for engine clearance on the rear side and engine mounts were attached.
Regarding the pistons, they were STD and also used, clearances were one the loose side of the tolerances. No scoring on the cylinders but as I said, I don't track this car and tbh I wouldn't track any 944 engine without dry sump and sleeved block lol, they are too weak (oiling and cylinder scoring). My 931 engine is built like tank and never had an issue with oiling, cooling or cylinders (blew headgasket once).
I have covered ~8000 km's on this engine since last September, around 6000 km's is covered in its current state (boosted to 400+ hp).
Markus951 used 968 pistons in his build, just changed the rods to 951 RARST ones, that's all. Here's his build thread: [url]https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/319257-the-saga-continues-this-time-more-valves-more-displacement-9.html

It's a shame there isn't a 16v version for the 2ltr Iron block. Then we could crank some serious boost through that and come out the other side.

We once modified a 924 cross member to fit 944 steering rack and engine mounts, was similar to what you did. I suppose you know already, but the 924 steering feels like a POS compared with the 944's... at least it felt horrible on the few 924/931 I got to drive.
I also would never use a stock-ish 951 engine on the track, but I'm curious if modified stock pistons could handle my favourite Autobahn shakedown, and the engine produces quite a bit of heat at that pace... I will have to chat again with a Mahle piston supplier I know.
Btw, are S pistons slipper skirt or full skirt? It seems that 968 pistons came in both flavours, and I'm not sure which to favour.

Interesting regarding not using the standard 951 engine on track...here in Sweden it is very common to both use our cars for trackdays and real racing without any hardware modifications to the engines. Of course the engines usually have some modification for more power (chip).
Both R-tires and slicks are being used.
I will perform the same upgrade as Peep during the winter and aiming for 500hk with lower boost pressure than my today 1,7-1,8 bar (24,7-26 psi). I have around 450+ already but I feel a bit worried when I do trackdays

Standard cooling and I use 10W-60 Castrol oil. But this is Sweden....max temperatures of 30 °C and that is very rare Most of the 944/968 are running with R-tires.
